The Spiritual Source of Energy
(topic)

The Ocean of Energy that Takes Form
This ocean of energy is the source of all energy in the universe. All forms of energy are only various vibrating frequencies of this ocean. Physical energy, vital (life) energy and mental energy are only its various expressions in the physical, vital and mental planes.

Expressions of Energy in Life
-There is a field of energy that has emerged, and continues to emerge from the Consciousness-Force of the Absolute. That energy is the plane of Life. Life is then a sea of energy permeating all of existence that gives rise to all forms in the universe.

-Life is a field of energy that takes form materially, vitally, mentally, and spiritually.

-In life there is matter, i.e. the material plane, which express through material energies, there is the vital plane which expresses through vital energies, there is mind, which expresses through mental energies, and there is the supramental plane beyond mind which expresses through supramental energies.

-Life expresses through gross/material, subtle, and causal formations. Gross/material means the thing expresses as physical substance and can be perceived with the senses. When a thing expresses subtlely, it is not perceived through the senses, but is invisible. When a thing expresses causally, not only is it invisible but it is infused with spiritual consciousness giving it ultimate power of effectivity.

-Matter (e.g. the stone or the human body) expresses at the gross/material plane, as well as subtle, and causal planes; Vital individual wants, desires, emotions, feelings, attitudes, etc. and other vital life energies express predominantly at the subtle plane (though they can express causally as well.) Thoughts, ideas, opinions, beliefs, logical thoughts, etc., of the mind express fully at the subtle plane. Aspects of the spirit and supermind express causally (i.e. super-subtlely).

Energy in the Essence of Existence
-Energy is the essence of life. From out of the creation came matter as forms of force.

-Energy began at the inception of the creation as energy at rest. The Big Bang or similar as energy at rest began to move and expanded as energy in motion. If scientists knew that the creation began as energy at rest, not in motion it would revolutionize their perceptions and understanding. If they further knew that energy at rest came out of the "nothing," from the Divine it would change the direction of science.

-Everything in the universe is infinite, though each things seems to be finite. When we see how matter can be converted to energy (including nuclear fusion and fission) we see how there is infinity in matter, in everything in life. This indicates that all things in life, not just matter, have infinite potential waiting to be released. Everything we now perceive as finite can be infinite.

-Energy directed in life becomes force. Force that is organized becomes power. Power organized for action becomes skills. Skills organized in an person becomes a capacity.

Manifesting the Original Energy

We are not only a product of an essential Energy (originating in a Conscious Force), but we manifest it in its physical, vital, mental, and spiritual forms.

Thoughts on Spiritual Source of Energy

  • Energy originates in Being through its extension to Consciousness to Force and to Will through the dividing action of the plane of Mind as determined by Supermind.
  • Energy is the result of will which is the product of knowledge acting on the force of consciousness of the Being.
  • Energy originates in Being in the involution and matter in the evolution. In the evolution energy culminates in Super Being.
  • Though energy in life expresses physically, vitally, and mentally, its origins are spiritual; i.e. from the Being. So it is logical that it also can express spiritually, which it does.
  • Energy manifest as results in life through a process of conversion, and withers and dies through unconscious dispersion.
  • Energy gathers through right consciousness, emotion, thought, and action.
  • True interest in another energizes; in separative self (i.e. ego) depletes.
  • Moving within replenishes energy, as it is a movement toward the Being in the individual in the universe.
  • Energy gathers by understanding the nature of energy, or for that matter, the nature of anything.
  • How can we understand energy in terms of Nature? Let's try. Nature is the energy of life moving towards a Higher end through a lower means.
  • To reenergize yourself, be still, and, if necessary, call energy into your being. Then wait for the energy to return. When it does, you can resume your activities.
  • A doctor recommends rest to the ill patient to reinvigorate and energize. If he also suggests Stillness and Silence deep within, the patient can invigorate that much sooner, even instantly. If the doctor too lives this way, he can do it for the patient!

Thoughts on Energy

-Energy has at its source a Conscious Force of the Infinite Divine.

-Energy is the basis of all forms, seen and unseen in the universe.

-Energy always remains. It may change its forms, but it sustains itself, by entering a new form when the old one cannot contain it.

-Energy is Life, or rather is the essence of life out of which forms of its force are created.

-Even if there were no physical universe, there would still be Energy, ready to take forms of itself as forms in creation.

The Nature of Energy
(topic)

The Nature of Energy

  • Energy is the force and power that shapes Life.

  • Energy is that which energizes forms.

  • Energy stimulates life into action. Energy is the force behind all movement and action.

  • Energy has its source in Consciousness.

  • Energy has its source in the Conscious Force that originated from the Infinite Divine.

  • The power of the energy in forms is determined by the consciousness of the energy. The greater the consciousness, the greater the effectively of the energy in life.

  • Energy can be physical, vital, mental, or spiritual.

  • The more physical, vital, mental, spiritual energy we have, the greater the power we have at that plane of our being.

  • Energy can move from a state of equilibrium to disequilibrium. However, Energy always seeks to reformulate itself back into a state of equilibrium.

  • When a form can no longer hold the energy, it seeks a new form to inhabit.

  • Energy, whether coming in mental, vital, or physical form, once set in motion, seeks embodiment and fulfillment. If it is not fulfilled in one form, it moves on to another. That explains all change in life, including birth and death.

  • Energy is one of the critical factors that determine one's success and accomplishment in life.

  • The greater and higher the quality of the energy, the greater the accomplishment.

  • We have infinite energy at our disposal, but due to our lower nature, much of it is squandered.

  • Raising our consciousness increases our energies at all levels, up to infinity.

  • Energy increases through our increased aspiration, intention, will, motives, direction, decisions, organization, effort, skills, knowledge, positive attitudes, and personal values.

  • Spiritually energy increases through silence - of verbal expression, of thought, of action, of initiation; through non-reaction and equality of being; by practicing self-givingness and gratitude; by moving to a deeper center of awareness; and self-offering our daily existence to the spiritual Force.

  • Energy is depleted by all Ego movements; by movements of the lower physical and vital consciousness; and by all associations not in tune with our own.

The Movemen
t of Energy Amongst  Forms
Energy creates form. However, forms break down, is unable to hold the energy, and so the energy takes new form. What lasts is the energy. What changes is the form. E.g. forms of government change, but the force and energy continues, even increases when of a higher consciousness. Thus energy goes from one form to another; one act to another.

Form and Energy
We observe the forms of life around us and wonder where their origin and source of power lies. It comes from energy. Moreover, there is a fascinating relationship between the forms and the energy behind it.

Energy is the source and basis of all forms, whether physical forms of rocks or humans, or mental forms such as concepts and ideas. Forms however tend to break down. However, the energy behind them does not go away. Rather it formulates into new forms. For example, when a form of government, such as monarchy, breaks down, the energy behind it does not wither, but reformulates itself into a new form, such as democracy.

When things die -- whether anachronistic forms of social influence like aristocracy, or the physical human body -- that form is unable to hold its energy. It thus seeks corresponding new forms to inhabit, such as a new social order or a new form of life; even a new human body. In the 1960s the global Hippy movement was born in the San Francisco area. It sparkled like a comet across the sky changing the world, and just as suddenly died out. But then the energy behind morphed a new form with the rise of Silicon Valley, the personal computer, the Internet, and the Smartphone, all in that very same area. Their influence is untold, approaching infinity.

Sri Aurobindo in his metaphysical opus 'The Life Divine' tells us that energy is the source of all things, all life seen and unseen in the universe. He says that there is a constant, dynamic energy in the cosmos that takes subtle or gross form -- whether a physical body or object, a plant or animal, or an idea or insight. This common energy flowing subtly and invisibly through the universe has as its source a spiritual Conscious-Force of the one Infinite Consciousness.

Though we are a product of that universal force, energy is not a static entity. For example, we humans can increase it at any time -- whether it is physical, vital/emotional, mental, or spiritual energy. Increasing any of these will give us not only a greater power to accomplish, but a greater zest for life. If this is so, then what can we do to increase our energy? There are a number of practical approaches.

One is to increase our level of aspiration in life. The more intense our aspiration to achieve a goal, the more our will is engaged, and thus the greater energy released. Another way to maintain and build our energies is to maintain a positive attitude. Whereas negative attitudes tend or deplete our energies, even evoking instances of sudden ill fortune, positive ones -- whether towards others, one's self, one's work, or life -- tend to have the opposite effect.

Thus, the more we increase our energy, the more likely the forms that relate to our being will maintain themselves and avoid breaking down. If we lose physical, vital, or mental energy, those corresponding forms tend to whither. E.g. out body decays, our will depletes, and our understanding diminishes.

In the end, energy is the source of all accomplishment. It is energy that created, is creating the universe from a divine, Infinite consciousness. Likewise it is energy that also enables us create and achieve in life. The greater the consciousness, the greater the energy -- physical, vital, mental, and spiritual, and thus the greater sustainability of the forms of our being and our capacity to thrive.

Energy Movement Seeking Fulfillment

Energy, whether coming in mental, vital, or physical form, once set in motion, seeks embodiment and fulfillment. If it is not fulfilled in one form, it moves on to another. That explains all change in life, including birth and death.

Types of Energy

There are various forms of energy -- physical, vital/emotional, mental, and spiritual. Our ultimate goal can be to maximize each.

Restoring the Balance of Energies

Nature has an instinctive, holistic tendency that creates a natural balance, an equilibrium of energies that is lacking in Man. On the other hand, we tend to focus on one aspect of a thing, one part, leaving other aspects incomplete, which creates imbalance and disequilibrium. And yet, if we raised our consciousness and embraced a more integral approach to life, addressing and perfecting all parts of a thing or matter, we would maintain a balance of energies, which would form the basis of a magnificent existence.

Take the animal. It exists primarily by instinct. It exists through a subconscious knowledge that it instinctively follows, which is perfect at its own level. Man, on the other hand, is governed by a newer, more advanced faculty -- Mind. Yet despite the advance, Mind is a very imperfect instrument. For one, it operates too often on the surface of things; merely on the inputs of the senses. It is also too much driven by our lower vital and physical needs, rather than the rational truth of things. It is egotistic and separative from others, life, and truth. Overall, its thinking processes are incomplete, partial, one-sided, as it flies away from truth in order to protect, to substantiate its own narrow mental opinions and beliefs, vital attitudes, and physical urges. Thus, Man lives out of harmony. There is a disequilibrium of energies, a life out of balance, a disharmony within and with the world around him.

The Mind of Man not only exists within him, but expands to create the society he lives in. Yet, there too there is a similar imbalance. We see this in virtually every aspect where human development has taken place. We tend to improve things in one area, but neglect others, creating imbalances and conflict. For example, due to advances in medicine and sanitation, we live longer. And yet that extension of life has not been balanced by a correspond growth in our psychological and mental life. We may live longer, but we do not take advantage of it. Instead, in our extended life, we act routinely or superficially, attached to our lower vital needs and urges, instead of making the effort to develop ourselves; to aspire for something greater in our lives

If we examine illness and death, we will see that it is due to disequilibrium in our nature caused by a brittleness and fixidity in our physical and vital parts, causing us to wither away and eventually die. Illness in particular has its origins in our psychological nature. However, if we understand and overcome the negative reactions, attitudes, opinions, beliefs that spawn and attract it, we can restore the equilibrium, and thereby free ourselves of ill health. Even death itself can be overcome when we discover the inner psychological and spiritual keys that precipitate it.

Energy Behind Does Not Die, but Takes on New Forms
When a form dies, its energy does not, as it seeks and enters new forms. When the defense industry began to decline in Silicon Valley over the last two decades that energy continued to flow despite the companies' demise, and helped in the formation of new technologies in new organizations. The form dies, but not the energy, which seeks a higher form for its purpose.

Source of Energy from Knowledge and Will
(topic)

Source of Energy
W
here does energy itself come from? It is a product of one's will. That will can emanate from the body, the emotions, or the mind. It's mostly in the vital/emotional part of us. For example, the will in a salesperson emanates primarily from the vital/emotional part of his being. He tends to like to interact with people; he takes pleasure in such interaction; he enjoys the vital exchange of emotions and connection. In such cases the will originates in the vital's tendency to enjoy social interaction and interchange. Most great achievers in life have this trait of overflowing energy, emanating from a highly developed will centered in the vital part of the being.

Likewise, energy can emanate from the mind as an idea, a sentiment, a value, or one's self-conception of that which one wants to be or create. However, the mental energy coming from our minds cannot really achieve much in life unless it has engaged the will in one's vital/emotional center.

Energy and Will
Energy is an expression of Will and is released by will. The will is conscious in mind, subconscious in life expressing as instinct, and inconscient in matter expressing as fixed patterns of behavior and deterministic laws.

Creation, Accomplishment, Knowledge, Will, and Energy
-
Accomplishment is determined by the knowledge we have and the will to accomplish it. Knowledge and will creates energy that when organized manifests as accomplishment.
-The universe came about because a Divine Knowledge together with a Divine Will released the plane of energy from which the forms of the cosmos took shape.
-Thus there is one fundamental process of creation in the universe.

Increase Your Aspiration in Life
Energy is a product of one's will. The more will, the more energy. But what creates will in life? It is created by your aspirations in life. Whenever you aspire for something it creates the will that energizes. If you don't have energy, consider if you are lacking aspiration in life. Then consider how to attain aspiration. Think about what you would like to accomplish in life, what opportunities are out there, what you would like to achieve, what you would like to learn, and so forth. When you find what you want, you will feel aspiration rise, which will stir the will, and energize your being.

Energy that Issues out of Knowledge and Will
The key to accomplishment is self-knowledge, which enables a will, which releases energy, which enables accomplishment.

Energy of Knowledge and Will
Human energy is generated and released by knowledge and willed effort.

Energy, Will, Knowledge
Energy comes from Will. Will is enabled through greater Knowledge.

Energy & Will
Energy comes from the will; whether it be the will of the individual, or the will of the Divine that enabled a universe from the energy that manifest.

Human Energy
Energy issues from aspiration, determination to accomplish. (MSS)

The Power of Wish, Aspiration to Be Achieved is Determined by the Truth of the Knowledge
The wish has a will in it. The power of that will depends upon the knowledge of it.

The power of that knowledge is determined by the truth of that knowledge. Wishes of strong will, clear knowledge and pure intention come true in time. Others do not. (MSS)

Delight of Discovery and Energy
Joy and delight of discovery releases in turn a great energy in ourselves; mental energy in our minds, vital energy in our emotions, and physical energy in our bodies. This new found energy can then be channeled and utilized to take us to even higher vistas in life.

Knowledge, Will, Energy, and Accomplishment
The inner mental, vital, and emotional energy one has to accomplish is an expression of one's will. Will itself is a power that comes from knowledge. So the extent of the energy that one releases is determined by the breadth of one's knowledge; the more knowledge, the more energy. E.g. the more we are aware of the possibilities in life, the more out will is engaged, which releases out energy to accomplish aspects of that knowledge.

What then maximizes our knowledge? Education is one. Generally those who are educated accomplish more than those who are not. One can also avail of the social resources there in the collective, which gives a greater capacity than what education gives. The true achiever is energized to accomplish through the knowledge of his own personal resources; i.e. knowledge his own personal and true self. (Paraphrase of MSS)

Ways We Can Be Energized
We can be energized through our minds, through our emotions, and through our bodies, or any combination of these. For example, a new idea can energize us through the mind; so can
learning something new or challenging, or following an ideal, sentiment, or value. Likewise a deep inspiration or feeling can energize us through our emotions. And, of course, living a healthy life, taking care of yourself, can energize us through our bodies.

Four Planes of Energy
There is physical, vital, mental, and spiritual determinants of one's energy level, with a variety of factors within each grouping.

Different Expressions and Results of Mental Energy

A reader asked a question:  "Can the traits of intellect, genius be explained in terms of energy?" I responded as follows:

We know that mental activity generates mental energy. The quality of the energy released created depends on many factors; including the type of mental activity engaged in -- e.g. thought processing, aspiration, values, pure logic, awareness, light, intuition, etc., which are expressions at different mental planes.

The quality of the energy also depends on the intensity of the engagement of that mental process. E.g. the programmer engaged in pure thought, may be only slightly engaged or fully. The more he is, the greater the intensity, thus the greater the mental energy produced.

We also see that the higher the plane of Mind used, the greater the energy generated, which manifests as a deeper, more integral, and many-sided knowledge o f any object of inquiry.

E.g. Karmayogi says that taking to mental Silence taps into waves of energy from an unlimited reservoir and source.  From this plane, the Mind functions more smoothly and effectively through its thought processes, generating greater energy, and hence greater mental results.

We also know we are capable of experiencing intuitions of knowledge without thought, where an idea simply enters into our mind complete, without thought.  When Einstein realized E=MC2 and other conceptions, he often did so through sudden intuitions of knowledge without any thought at all. There must be some energy going out in us that attracts this sudden ideation. Many yogis say that the deeper the connection within to our self, and soul, the greater the opening to the universal planes from which we experience intuitions of knowledge. So the inner being or an opening to the superconscient planes must generate that energy.

The energy at the level of Supermind, of supramental perception via the spiritual Force has ultimate energy power of attraction, as at once we both KNOW the thing under scrutiny in its essence and variation, and it also MANIFESTS as a living reality. E.g. when I open to the Force, I unleash an energy that gives me the answer to the problem, while also setting in motion events where the solution is used to generate a result that is of great benefit to me. There is perhaps what we might call a Causal Energy creating causal results. It is causal because a thing is created/caused from out of nowhere; where there was nothing before to generate it.

Thus energy can be generated from the normal mental functions -- from sense input accumulation to idea processing to expressions of our personal values to rational thinking of the intellect to even purer thought of the philosopher -- all the way up to the spiritualized mental experiences like silence, light, intuition, and supramental perception. The higher the plane, the more integral the knowledge; plus at the highest planes (particularly the supramental) we attract life results of that knowledge.

We could therefore say that as we use mind at higher levels, we generate corresponding higher formations of mental energy. That generates more complete understanding and Knowledge, but also increasing power for that Knowledge to manifest as a real, material formation in the world. Offering the mental activity to the Divine, to Mother engages the supramental power directly, gives both knowledge and (often instantaneous) material results. These must derive from a higher, ultimate formation and intensity of energy, which can be called "Causal."

It would be an interesting study if scientists could measure when different aspects of our mentality or planes of mind are used. On the other hand, their instruments, which normally seek, factual, physical, empirical evidence, may prove futile,  and only observing how life responds, both in terms of the knowledge we garner (inner) and the real material results that follow (outer) will give us a truer understanding of the nature, scope, intensity, power, effectivity, etc. of the mental Energy released.

How We Waste Our Energy; How Our Ennergies are Depleted
(topic)

Power of Preserving our Energies

The other day someone asked me why we are constantly in a state of action and motion; and why is our mind constantly full of thoughts. I answered that it was due to the fact that our physical, vital, and mental energies are not under control. I.e. if our physical energies were under a modicum of restraint, we wouldn't be in constant motion. Similarly, if our mental energies were held in check, our thoughts wouldn't be constantly running. Let's then examine uncontrolled energy at each of these planes a little closer.

One extreme of unfettered physical energy is the child who races around haphazardly here and there, as the mind has not learned to control and direct those energies. However, as we get older, our physical energies are absorbed in other pursuits: in dealing with work, family problems, romantic and other personal relationships, and so forth. As a result, we tend to move around less arbitrarily. Or to put it another way, as we mature, our vital and mental parts take the reins from the physical.

We also squander our vital energies in a variety of ways. Examples are taking to excessive drink and drugs, intense emotional or physical interchange, overreacting to the inputs of others, being absorbed in trivial pursuits, pushing ourselves too far, and many others. In addition, there is a litany of primal negative emotions, feelings, and attitudes -- such as anger, hate, and jealousy -- that constantly drain our vital energies. Most of the time, we are completely aware of this dynamic.

Then there are the various ways we waste our mental energies. For example, "running thoughts," -- i.e. the mind's tendency to constantly have to think -- is another form of uncontrolled energy release that depletes it. It is large part due to the restlessness of our lower, physical-oriented mentality, which constantly has to think about things in order to feel secure and assured. Then there is what I like to call "momentum thinking," which is the tendency of mind to constantly have to review current circumstance and conditions well after it is necessary to do so. Again, there is a kind of subconscious fear that if one is not constantly reviewing current circumstance that life will not work out well; when in fact the opposite is true. Finally, as the mind develops, through education and various life experiences, it seeks to express itself ever-more frequently like a powerful muscle. All three forms deplete our mental energies at a time they need to be rejuvenated for future mental freshness.

And yet, we can learn to control any of these forms of energy depletion if we just become aware of their expression, and then develop a simple method to restrain it. One method is to periodically scan ourselves, and determine if we are squandering our physical, vital, and mental energies. That effort, in tandem with our energy depletion knowledge, will generally reveal where we need to control ourselves. For example, if I go for a walk after completing a relatively important work, and I find myself constantly having to review and reassess every detail of my earlier efforts, it indicates that I need to develop a degree of restraint in that area. I therefore decide that every time I take that afternoon walk, I will not think of anything to do with work. If I do, not only will my energies be restored, but the effort to create that mental silence will attract positive conditions, including intuitions of important knowledge, from seemingly out of nowhere.

Another technique is that whenever we feel tired, we can consider what we did at the physical, vital/emotional, or mental levels that precipitated it. E.g. if we find ourselves exhausted the day after an intense meeting with a friend, then we know that it has drained our energies, and we should try to avoid such forceful interactions in the future.

In the end, it is only through self-analysis and self-discipline that we can maintain high levels of physical, vital, and mental energy. If we are vigilant, observe ourselves, and make the effort to change our energy-wasting ways, not only will our vigor and energy in life be constantly overflowing, but we will feel continuous joy in being alive. There is no more wonderful condition in life!

Hidden Deflators of Energy
There are some other very unusual, hidden ways that energy can get depleted. For example, one individual went to a funeral, where the atmosphere and consciousness was low, where the energy was somehow deflating, even if people were not conscious of he fact. When he arrived back from the funeral and touched his computer, it would not function. This is an example of how something outside, a person, a gathering, or some other force can secretly be debilitating and reducing the energy surrounding it, which can enter people, who when they interact with something else spread this unseen debilitation of energy. One can also feel depleted of energy if someone has a hostile will toward you, or is untruthful toward you, or is disorganized in their thoughts, or is expending the wrong type of energy, etc.

Negativity and Low Energy

Negative thoughts, feelings, reactions, and attitudes deplete our energy.

Ways In Which We Waste Energy

Waste is an unavoidable phenomenon in our daily lives. Though in absolute terms Sri Aurobindo says that there is no waste in creation, it is difficult to concede that there is no waste of any sort in our daily lives. Certainly there is a lot of waste of money, materials and our time and energy and if these could be minimized it will enhance our lives and productivity immensely. Given below is a sample list of the types of waste that we allow in our daily lives.

1. Inefficient functioning wastes a lot of money, materials, energy and time and this is quite prevalent in business, administration and even in running households.

2. Lot of money is wasted through vanity purchases by which more goods are bought than is necessary and under this heading comes purchase of excess dress materials, jewelry, cosmetics and household consumables. A good deal of these purchases are done more for the joy of possessions than for any real consumption purposes

3. Nations waste a lot of money that can otherwise be meaningfully spent on development purposes when they spend huge amounts of money for purchase of arms and ammunitions which can be far in excess of actual defense needs. This comes from a competitive security atmosphere by which the more the rival country builds up its arms supply , the more the other countries feels threatened and are forced to equalize their own arms supply by buying more.

4. Fear, irritation, anger, jealousy, doubt, insecurity and worry all waste our emotional energies and vastly diminish our accomplishments.

5. Excitement, hurry, impatience, idle expectation and short-sighted goals that don't see the long-term requirements all waste our energies.

6. Disorganised functioning, disharmonious relationships, lack of coordination all scatter our energies that would normally be sharply focused on the work and aims to be accomplished and thereby waste our energies.

7. Loud talking, meaningless chatting, needless gossip and ego clashes over petty issues all waste our energies and time in a tremendous way.

8. There is waste of electricity, water, food materials, writing paper etc in many households which only comes from total carelessness and unconsciousness.

9. Improper accounting and stock taking can make companies waste a lot of money in needless purchase of raw materials on the assumption that there is less stock when really there may be a lot.

10. All types of low-consciousness activities such as quarrelling, obsession with money, authority and asserting one's position and addiction to physical and sensual pleasures waste the higher consciousness and spiritual energies that Mother gives us and even if we are not aware of it, the waste is real and highly regrettable.

11. Lack of awareness of our potential capacities and talents which prevents these hidden assets from coming out on the surface and magnifying our accomplishments is a real waste of our own human resources.

12. Lack of knowledge of the vast and magnificent opportunities around us that Society is offering all the time lets these opportunities go to waste with nobody feeling even sorry for it.

The Supreme allows all these wastes with an amazing tolerance and perhaps in his accounting equations all these enormous waste is simply entered as cost of unconsciousness. If he withdraws his consent for all these wastes, so much money, materials and energy that are wasted now will be meaningfully spent and the world will be far richer, far more productive and far better a place to live that it is now. Why He has not put his foot down on all these still is a total mystery.  (N. Ashokan of MSS)

Wasting Our Energies that Prevent Further Success

Human nature is such that when we have a modicum of success, we waste our energies -- physically, vitally and mentally -- preventing us from greater achievement along those lines.

Energy Wasting Activities
There are a number of activities in life that deplete one's energies.  Many of us accept then as a normal part of life.  However, many things can wear you out, drain your emotions, or cloud your mind. Think about some of the items you are doing that are depleting you of your physical, emotional, or mental energy (e.g. drinking, drugs, food indulgence, overripe attachments to others, sexual indulgence, etc.). Then try to cut back in these areas wherever possible.

Physical Pain and Disequilibrium of Energy

A physical pain is due to a disequilibrium of energy. The source can be external, such as other consciousnesses affecting you; or it can be internal, such as imbalance of some sort inside yourself; or in combination. This can be a fertile and revealing field of scientific, medical, psychological, life movement, and spiritual inquiry.

Energy and Accomplishment
Energy is the basis of all accomplishment. Creation is a creation of forms out of energy. Material objects consist of physical energy moving in fixed patterns and relations that appear to our senses as solid, stable objects and to our scientific instruments as atoms and molecules in constant motion. Living beings are characterized by the presence of vital or life energy that expresses in the form of sensations, instinctive impulses, subconscious drives and desires, feelings, emotions, passions, attitudes, behavior, character and personality. Mental energy takes form in our minds as ideas, thoughts, theories, inventions, works of art, plans, dreams, ideals we aspire for and values we strive to attain.

Spiritually, all energy is an expression of will and there is a secret will that manifests and expresses through all forms of energy in the universe. All will is an expression of a consciousness, though the originating consciousness may be inconscient and imperceptible to our senses as in matter, subconscious as in the plant or animal, or superconscious as in spiritual experience. All consciousness is a manifestation of Being. Therefore, behind all energy, all will, all forms and all consciousness, there are beings or a Being that is a manifestation of the Infinite, the Absolute. All creation ultimately originates in the Being, which formulates a consciousness that has an inherent will and power for self-expression. The release of that will generates energy and that energy constitutes the building blocks for the creation as we perceive it in the universe. Thus, the entrepreneur (being), possessed of an aspiration to accomplish in business, conceives or becomes conscious of a new business idea and decides by an act of will to create a business. His decision releases his mental, vital and physical energy and propels him into action. By that energy and through that action he builds according to his conception the forms of a company, products and services, an organizational structure with operating systems, and a market identity to realize his vision.

-----

Anything that increases the energy of the being increases the capacity for accomplishment. Anything that reduces or dissipates the energy of the being in unproductive directions reduces that capacity. Negative thoughts, disturbing events, low energy people, unconscious acts, a lack of physical cleanliness, poor health, and bad habits are various ways in which energy is lost. (MSS)

Energy & Accomplishment
Energy is the fuel of life. The more fuel we have, the more that we can accomplish in life.

Energy & Accomplishment
Energy is a key to accomplishment.

Energy, Accomplishment, and Knowledge
Accomplishment is determined by the energy we have. The energy we have depends on the knowledge we have. We get knowledge from education and social resources. This enables energy, and thus accomplishment. Ultimately our knowledge of ourselves determines our energy, and thus accomplishment. We have partial knowledge through mind to complete knowledge in Supermind. Thus Supermind enables the greatest knowledge, hence the greatest energy and accomplishment. Knowledge comes form education, social milieu, knowledge of Self. Self-conception of self is the greatest knowledge, which creates the greatest results and thus greatest accomplishment. (Paraphrase of MSS)

Accomplishment, Capacity, and Energy
Accomplishment in life is in proportion to the capacity of the individual. Capacity is a measure of the strength of personal character. Character is the formed structure of the personality built up by knowledge, will and values to generate, release and convert raw human energy into personal intensity. It is the intensity of personality that attracts to the individual forces of similar strength and nature in the form of opportunities for advancement and struggles for survival. (MSS)

Musical Chairs
Last night I attended a lavish Christmas Gala at the huge, Victorian-style Claremont Hotel overlooking San Francisco Bay. Into the large ballroom were packed 250 people sitting at 30 tables. At the front was a raised stage where a live band provided the evening's musical entertainment. Periodically, expensive prizes were handed out to lucky winners in the organization.

At one point, people were invited to come up to the front of the hall and play a game of Musical Chairs. A dozen or so chairs were then set next to one another, alternating in direction. Various participants were called up and asked to participate. In essence, they would march around the chairs when the music started, and then jump into the nearest available one when it stopped several seconds later. Each time a round was completed, one chair would be taken out. There was always one more participant than available chairs, causing someone to be forced out in each round.

Before the action began, however, the host, trying to rally the participants, enthusiastically asked them "Are you ready to win?!?," or words to that effect. Spontaneously all of them raised their hands over their heads and cried our "yes!" That is, save one individual.

When I saw that this young woman refrained from responding to the boisterous call, I felt that it was an indicator that she should win. And so the game began, and round and round people walked, and when the music stopped, they piled into one of the available chairs. After two iterations, I saw that the young woman was still in the fray. And after five rounds, she was still in there. A few minutes later, there was only one chair left, and two participants; one being the young woman, the other a well dressed young man. When the music started, I noticed that the man was acting demonstrably and moving in an exotic way suggesting he was suave, relaxed, and had the situation under control. The young woman however remained calm and focused. When the music then stopped, both of them drove into the one available chair. But as it turned out, each had taken up half the seat, and as a result, it ended in a tie! However, the game leader indicated that they had to do it again in order to generate a winner.

And so again the music started, then it suddenly stopped, and two remaining participants drove into the one available chair. However, this time, the young woman swiftly moved in and took a seat in the chair, and was crowned the victor!

I must say I was quietly overjoyed that my pick had won Musical Chairs. Not because I won a bet with myself, or because I have some gift of prophecy and can look into the future, but because in that episode I understood a principle of life. If you conserve your energies, you are bound to attract the very best of conditions; in this case, the best chance to win the game. Because the young woman did not react boisterously and self-congratulatory when compelled to let out a shout by the host, she conserved her energies, which led me to believe that she had the best chance to secure the victory. When she did, it not only reaffirmed a powerful law of life, but it expressed through an exciting and thoroughly enjoyable life response outcome!

On Fatigue When Undertaking a Great Project
Without energy nothing can be accomplished. To undertake a great project demands exhaustive energy on our part.  Therefore, if one is tired, exhausted or there are other physical symptoms on the project, it is best to rest until energy returns. Then the effort can produce great results.

Growth in Personal Capacity and Energy
Growth of personal capacity involves a progressive increase in the ability of the individual to generate, harness, release and control physical energy as skill, vital energy as behavior, emotional energy as attitudes and motives, and mental energy as thought, opinions and values. Human energy is generated and released by knowledge and willed effort. (MSS)

Increasing One's Energy Level Attracts Positive Life Response
Anything in life that increases energy is more likely to invoke a positive life response. The reverse for a negative life response. Examples of what can increase energy are: getting the proper rest, learning a new skill, having a generally positive attitude, overcoming negative attitudes, giving up an opinion, changing a habit, and giving your attention to others.

LIFE RESPONSE EXAMPLES

-Getting proper rest -- A man was very weary and tired. During that time work got cancelled. He finally began to get more sleep, and began to recover his energies somewhat. Corresponding to the level of rest, he got more work. Even work that had been previously cancelled by his weariness was recovered.

-Learn a new skill-- An instructor learns a new program to teach. He is not only feels a surge of new mental energy, stimulated there by what he has learned, but feels additional energy in his being as a result of the possibility that he could extend this new knowledge into new possibilities in his career.

-Changing a habit -- An instructor had been conducting a particular class the same way for months on end. The results were flat; the students only mildly involved. He decided to take a completely different approach in his training technique and methodology. Now when the teacher uses this new approach for the course the students are energized and enthusiastic, leading to far higher class evaluations for the instructor.

-Give attention to others -- A manager decided to train his illiterate workers. They and the company thereafter became very happy and energized. Even the machines started working better!

Accept Givens, Perfect Work, Self-Giving, Gratitude as Solution to Too Much Work
[In response to a woman who was overwhelmed by too much work, pressures from life:]
Happily accept all the work that comes to you and do it as perfectly and as carefully as you can, even more perfectly than ever before. But this time, think of the people to whom the work relates rather than merely the work itself, the students you are teaching, the family you are raising and give yourself emotionally 100%, meaning feel an intense joy in helping them, giving yourself to them and furthering their growth. You say you have a better life than anyone, but obviously you do not feel happy about it. Feel intense genuine heartfelt gratitude for what you do have. The joy and the gratitude will evoke a response from life. If you are aware and observant, you will see that the character of your life, your personal experience and people's response begins to change immediately. (MSS)

Higher Consciousness Enables Greater Energy

Energy is most readily built up by elevating our consciousness; improving our inner, psychological condition.  Wherever we do so, we build up energy at any of four levels -- physical, vital, mental, and spiritual.

Acquire New Skills

Learn a New Skill or Niche

Whenever you learn something new, you will feel energy flowing into yourself.  If you implement the new skill or knowledge in your life, you will also feel a fresh surge of energy and enthusiasm.

Adding Skills, Moving to 100% Perfection Energizes You
Once you acquire a shade more of skill in one aspect of the work, you will see the work is not tiring. It has no end. To move from 70% of skill to 95% of efficiency is possible for all of us. At that level there will be job satisfaction and unflagging energy. To go beyond the 95% each one percentage of improvement will appear to require a Himalayan effort. That effort itself is energising. Suppose you reach 99% perfection and you are determined to reach 100%. You will discover that to cover that 1% you need as much energy as you spent in reaching at 99%. It is so because he who touches 100% perfection moves from the human effort to spiritual energy, which is endless. (MSS)

Will to Accomplish

Aspiration + Will Releases Tremendous Energy

We release tremendous energy when we commit ourselves to achieving something and have the full endorsement of our emotions. Or to put it another way, Aspiration + Will = Energy.

Aspiration Increases Energy

Though we are a product of that universal force, energy is not a static entity. For example, we humans can increase it at any time -- whether it is physical, vital/emotional, mental, or spiritual energy. Increasing any of these will give us not only a greater power to accomplish, but a greater zest for life. If this is so, then what can we do to increase our energy? There are a number of practical approaches.

One is to increase our level of aspiration in life. The more intense our aspiration to achieve a goal, the more our will is engaged, and thus the greater energy released.

Overcoming Fatigue by Eliminating Unwillingness (and Accepting Work at Hand)
Energy in essence comes from the will of one's being. If one has the will, there will be energy. If one doesn't have the will, energy will be blocked -- e.g. one can become tired. If one is tired in life one needs to consider if one is resisting the work we are involved with in some way; where the will is in in essence is opposition to the work; i.e. we are unwilling to do the work. Overcoming this unwillingness will release energy and overcome such tiredness.

Develop, Commit, and Organize a New Endeavor
If you decide that you want to undertake a new endeavor, such as a new project or a new business venture, great energy will be required on your part. If however, you are able to think out clearly what you want, commit to it, and work out the specific details (i.e. organize your vision and goals), you will see your mental energy grow, which will then be followed by a rise in your vital/emotional energy and will, and then your physical energy, giving you the necessary propulsion to see your endeavor through to great success. In other words, by leading with your mentality, your mind's capacity for establishing direction and organization, you release the a vast energy of the other parts of your being that can take you to your goal in spades.

Prioritize Life Activities
Sometimes we spread our energy across too many activities and interests in our lives causing us to have less than enough energy for the most important things. Try to evaluate which items in your life takes the highest priorities, and devote more of your energy towards these, and less to those of less importance.

Vital Energy

Increasing Vital Energy by Giving

Physical energy depends on what we give and take from our body. Vital energy depends on how much we give and take emotionally. The more we give to others, to life, the more internal vital/emotional energy we create.

Building Up Vital Energy

Not wasting our vital/emotional energies maintains it, builds it up.

How to Raise Your Vital Energy

Raise the level of your vital energy by remaining calm, relaxed, positive, pleasant and expansive in all your interactions with others. (Paraphrase of MSS)

Comment: Let us try that as much as possible. We can practice that approach with spouse, friends, boss, subordinates, customer (potential or actual), etc. in the course of our day. If we also remember Mother (the spiritual Force) constantly, it will be that much easier. We will thereby feel continually refreshed, and energized for more.

Overcome Negative Attitudes, Opinions, Habits

Positive Attitudes and Energy

An Important way to maintain and build our energies is to maintain a positive attitude. Whereas negative attitudes tend or deplete our energies, even evoking instances of sudden ill fortune, positive ones -- whether towards others, one's self, one's work, or life -- tend to have the opposite effect.

Develop Positive Attitudes

It's always best to have a generally positive attitude. A positive attitude attracts positive circumstances and fortune in our lives, and at the same increases our energy. Having a negative attitude attracts the opposite.  Worry, anxiety, fear, anger, depression, restlessness, impatience, etc. are inborn, primal negative attitudes that deplete one's energy.

In addition to having a general positive attitude to overcome the shared set of primal negative attitudes that dog every human, there is the set of negative attitudes that each human uniquely possesses. For example one individual could show a propensity to close-mindedness, laziness, dislike of the work you are given, procrastination, selfishness, ill-will toward others, and other less primal, more specific-to-the individual type negative attitudes. Another individual would have his or her own unique set. If one can make the effort to identify our unique negative attitudes, and then make a sustained effort to overcome them, a vast reservoir of energy will flood the being.

Give Up an Opinion
What applies to a negative attitude also applies to an overly held opinion. As an experiment, take one of your ordinary attitudes or opinions -- something you like or dislike pretty strongly. Suspend for a moment the idea that it's right, necessary, reasonable, essential to your existence. Throw the attitude or opinion away. Discover the truth in the very opposite attitude expressed by someone you vehemently disagree with. Energy will pour into your mind.

Change a Habit
Changing any common habit or activity can also increase one's energy. Take any simple physical habit such as brushing your teeth, eating, or writing a letter. Try to become conscious of every thought, feeling, sensation, and movement which arises when you express the habit. Now change the way you do it. Break the habitual movements. Think, feel and do it differently. Energy will surge through your nerves.

Spiritual/Inner Approaches to Creating Energy

Infinite Spiritual Energies
We can know the ultimate source of energy in life by opening ourselves to the higher spiritual energies around us. We can come in touch with our inner spiritual essence and being, or open to the transcendent Divine, to connect us with the infinite powers and energies of the universe. It is in fact that Force that connects us to the source of all energy in the universe.

There are a number of ways to open one's self to the higher energies and forces that exist in the universe. If one opens to these forces one can tap into energies that are infinite, which can translate into infinite energy in your life.

For example, here's an "inner" psychological approach to increasing your energy. Sit quietly for a few minutes, close your eyes, and "call" energy into your being. Call silently and intensely, as if you were calling a dearly beloved friend. Imagine your being opening to the energy above and around you. After a while energy will surge into your body.

Here are some other ways to open to the infinite energies of the universe.

  • Have non-egoistic thoughts.
  • Have all unselfish thoughts. Turn selfish thoughts, feelings, and acts into unselfish thoughts, feelings, and acts.
  • Take the other person's point of view; e.g. In business think of the customer's point of view.
  • Get in touch with the inner being, one's inner soul through concentration there.
  • Know that one is not an ego, but a universal and transcendent person.
  • From a spiritual inner feeling, have a spiritual sympathy for humanity.
  • Read about the spiritual dimensions of life; the infinite, the Divine, etc.
  • Take up a spiritual discipline.
  • Open to the Force before undertaking a major event. Open to it for smaller events.
  • Bring Inner Silence into your life.

Spirit Revives
Spirit revives dead or dying vehicle into fresh new life. (Paraphrase of Sri Aurobindo)

Through Silence (i.e. non-thinking, non-speaking, non-movement)

Silence & Energy
Silence is Energy at rest.

Overcoming Fatigue through Silence, Stillness
When you are tired, move to silence (i.e. non-thought). Energy will regenerate. If your body is tired, be still.

Silence Energizes
Sri Aurobindo says Silence sustains activity. Further, He says all those who have reached a little of that inner Silence know the surging waves of energy that are welling up from that immobile reservoir of SILENCE. (MSS)

Energy Conserved of Silence Gets to Work
The energy conserved by Silence gets to work immediately.

Speak Less, Speak Softly
Here is an unusual way to create energy that is guaranteed to work. Instead of verbalizing everything in your mind, hold the thoughts to yourself. Do not speak them out. After a while you'll notice that your energy is replenished. Likewise if you speak softly and avoid speaking loudly you will also notice that your energy will not be depleted.

Be Still to Eliminate Fatigue
If you are feeling fatigued, there is a simple solution to overcome it. Simply be still and quiet. Try to just relax, and remain quiet and calm. At a point soon thereafter your energies will return. I possible wait for it to return before acting. It is also helpful to have positive thoughts, eliminating all pessimism during this period of stillness.

On Fatigue When Undertaking a Great Project
Without energy nothing can be accomplished. To undertake
a great project demands exhaustive energy on our part.  Therefore, if one is tired, exhausted or there are other physical symptoms on the project, it is best to rest until energy returns. Then the effort can produce great results.

By Calling It

Calling Energy and Receiving It through Others

When you are exhausted and call to the Spirit for energy to envelop you, silently repeating "Energy, Energy," it may not come directly into your being. Instead, conditions may be created for you where you garner that energy through your association with others. Your interaction with them is uplifting and therefore energizing. In that way, the Force has responded, but not in the way you expected.

Call Energe to Renergize Yourself

To reenergize yourself, be still, and, if necessary, call energy into your being. Then wait for the energy to return. When it does, you can resume your activities.

Other

Shift Your Focu to Others
A related way to increase your energy is at any moment in time to shift your focus from yourself to those around you. As you do this, you will feel the eagerness, strain, or flatness related to your own self-focus to be replaced by an ease, energy, and joy of your focus to those around you. Moreover, others around you are more likely to respond positively to you, giving you even more energy!

Develop An Inner Poise
One
can begin in one's life a movement from living on the surface of life to the depths within. As one withdraws from the surface in our daily activities, as we move deeper within, we are far less troubled by the outside, because we have found the calm, Inner Being within. From that poise problems on the outside melt away, because we cease to exist in our ego state, or state of separateness. From this inner poise we are able to calmly see all our mistakes, impulses, overreactions, poor attitudes, assertive opinions, etc. that occur on the outside. By being stationed within, our day moves along more calmly, sweetly, perfectly, integrally. Things unfold more as peace and joy.
