• Forgetfulness is a weakness. You must eliminate it at any cost. Trained and systematic memory will help you to remember anything you want to.
• You cannot forget anything of which you are conscious.  [E.g. a lawyer knows all the facts, a salesperson all of the details of the product, a speech giver all of the points he wishes to make, a consultant all of the theories and anecdotes to support, a doctor all of the aspects of health, etc.)
• When you consciously try to memorize, you give split-second conscious attention to the things on hand. That is more than enough to produce powerful results. The memory systems do work. They will never let you down. They work infallibly if you know both the theory and practice.
• Acquisition of any powerful mental skill will immediately attract great life responses. (MSS, extracted)

Utility of Positive Memories
Our life is in perpetual motion and never-ceasing transformation. All that is currently happening in our lives - all the actions and events - will soon pass away and become memories. And memories are nothing but intangible mental impressions of events, places, objects, persons, experiences, etc, which get stored somewhere within our mind or soul. So whether we are going through good times or bad, we can rest assured that they will soon pass. It means each moment is fleeting and none of us can hold on to time. Nor can we ever hold on to any specific experience, event, place, object, person, circumstance, action, etc.

However, there truly is a blessing contained in every memory. Whether it reveals itself as a lesson or an insight, it is a blessing, still. But to be able to see the blessing contained in any memory, we should have a spiritual outlook to life. Because a man with a spiritual outlook will easily understand that change is the law of life and the resulting memories are the consequences that enable us to remember what really occurred.

Though memories have no physical existence and may elude our understanding, negative or distressing or annoying memories do have the capacity to cause pain and misery as well as heartache and depression. On the other hand, positive and constructive memories have the potential to make us happier, optimistic and confident. Obviously, no one wants to lead a painful life full of sufferings and misery.

Everyone aspires to have a happy, cheerful, optimistic and confident life.So if we can ensure that negative, distressing, annoying and irritating memories or imagery do not seep into our minds, we would have accomplished 50 per cent of the task that is required to keep our lives free of pain and sufferings. And simultaneously, if we can also accumulate lots of positive, joyous and constructive memories, they will definitely go a long way in ensuring us a happy, cheerful, joyous, optimistic and confident life.

All these are easier said then done. To be able to achieve the above, we need to become conscious of our thoughts and the resulting actions. If we do not become conscious of our actions, then we will always be victims of circumstances. So ultimately everything boils down to consciousness. (MSS)

What is Remembered and Forgotten in Life
-At all turning points in life, such as job, marriage, first visit to a town, etc. the events of such occasions will be remembered or stick to the memory by themselves.

-You can forget a person who was your roommate for a long time, but remember a brother of his whom you saw for a few hours if he had touched your life.

-Members of our caste, habits, style of dress especially during periods of change will be retained by the memory.

-Professionals will remember the work not the person; the doctors the disease, lawyers the cases, etc. as their own interest is not in the person.

-Fans will remember minor details of actors for years.

-Dislike may work in the reverse. A wife's birthday or even her name can be forgotten.

-People will remember other members of higher social standing for decades even if they are non-entities now like caste in India, aristocracy in England.

-Every small detail spoken by a VIP will be remembered for his sake.

-Important facts spoken by unimportant people will be remembered, but the person, however close he is, even if he is now talking to you will be totally forgotten.

-It is sin to remember small people.

-A fact will be sweet in the nth repetition as having spoken it umpteen times it will actually be forgotten.

-Mean people remember all the defects of others so as to use them readily later.

Imagination

On Imagination

• Imagination is a more powerful faculty than thinking.
• Poets who create out of their rich imagination create immortal literature.
• Ambitious men daydream that they have conquered the world. Whether it is ambition or aspiration, the faculty is the same - imagination. In one case, it is put to an undesirable use, in the other to uplift the soul.
• One who is deeply in love -sees- his beloved everywhere. It is almost a hallucination. On rare occasions, the force of imagination brings his beloved to many places of his visit.
• Ardent devotees have an active relationship with their gods. Mother -saw- Krishna walking behind Her. They are not fantasies. In the life of the Spirit, it is a spiritual experience. The reality of this faculty mostly shows itself in dreams. To those sincere devotees, their dreams come true. Should this faculty gain strength and permanence, it becomes clairvoyance.

Imagination Can Produce Using Mother/The Force

A certain devotee had applied for government permission. On that depended her future in a certain important sense. She had no one who could do it on her behalf, nor was she in a position to go to such places chasing the paper. Even if she had gone to those places, she could do nothing. There was an inordinate delay.

She finally decided to move as the paper itself. In her imagination, she became the paper and moved from table to table, office to office. It took six months of this inner work or labour. At the end of six months, news came to her that the paper was sanctioned and she achieved her goal.

What she had not known was in the government 'scheme of things', it had been decided NOT to sanction this paper and all such papers. Her spiritual yearning sent to the paper through the faculty of her own imagination carried Mother's Force to those places, changed the mind of the government and secured sanction for her paper. As a rule, when Mother sanctions something to one devotee, all those in a similar position receive the benefit. (MSS)

Imagination as Faculty of Mind that Can Abridge Time
Imagination is the most powerful faculty of the mind. Sri Aurobindo says imagination is the faculty that gives life to a future possibility. As it brings the future into the present, it has the characteristic of conquering Time. (MSS)

Imaging What We Can Become

It can have the least semblance of reality if he moves from here to there in his imagination based on real emotional attitudes. It is true a few things will refuse to take on reality, even in one's imagination. An ordinary man will shake in his limbs thinking himself to be standing before a vast audience. Workings of Mind & Imagination
The mind in the physical matter, if you can call it material mind, is very slow to perceive but perceives everything without fail. From its perception of facts around, through imagination, it chooses a form of action that would facilitate its work. Through trial and error, it arrives at a success and on that basis the organisation of action. The vitality in the body energises this choice and the physicality endorses it in action. (MSS)

The Nature of Ignorance (vs. Knowledge)

Integral Knowledge vs. Ignorance

The ability to simply know things in their completeness, fullness, and in their integral relationship, is what we mean by "Knowledge" or "Integral Knowledge." It is a status that enables one to understand, perceive, have access to the true truths, the integral truths, the vast quantity and quality of truths that are emerging at any given moment in time.

Our current way of knowing in life is fairly close to the opposite of Knowledge. That opposite we call "Ignorance." In the Ignorance we have extremely limited knowledge that is there, that is unfolding at any moment in time; we have false and error-filled knowledge; non-integral, related to the whole knowledge. We are living in one millionth of our knowledge potential at any moment. In that way we are closer to the insect than the potential human being living the Integral Knowledge.

Moving from Ignorance to Integral Knowledge

Ignorance and Integral Knowledge
Ignorance is lack of Knowledge that is an inherent state in all people. It is born of creation. We humans know one part of a matter or thing, and defend it vociferously. The emotionalizing and defense is falsehood and evil respectively. That which they defend is the part, which is Ignorance. Even the part knowledge may be false. The scientist discovered the infinite-like power of the atom, but then went ahead and developed evil weapons out of it. That part knowledge was Ignorance. We demonstrate it in every part of life we interact with. We know a small part of the whole, and express it intensely in our opinions and attitudes. Instead, we need to know all parts, including the Whole, which will bring us to Knowledge.

We begin to do this by moving within, by learning all life's laws, by elevating ourselves to our highest consciousness.

In the supramental consciousness there is no Ignorance as all parts are there and each part is connected to one another and its essence. There is also there a power of will and effectuation of that which is known. It is according to Sri Aurobindo a state in which we experience Integral Knowledge. It is a consciousness and power for the future of humanity.

We can begin to move from Ignorance to Integral Knowledge by first becoming truly rational, i.e. by being open to the truth of all sides of a matter, not the one small part we egotistically defend. Listening to others, seeking the truth of things, educating ourselves, taking the other person's point of view, focusing on the needs of others, etc. are various methods of achieving it.

Exclusivity of Mind; Perceiving the Part, not the Whole

Exclusive Thinking
People virulently defend what they already know, missing completely what they don't know. Such exclusive thinking is the root cause of Man's perpetual Ignorance.

Mind as Instrument of Division Confines Itself to the Part
Mind is an instrument of division. Whenever an object is presented to it, it looks at one part of it and dissects that part out of the whole and entirely confines itself to the part, considering that part to be the whole. (MSS)

Ignorance Rooted in Exclusivity of Mind
Ignorance is rooted in the exclusivity and particularizing nature of mind. It is a concentration of consciousness, of Conscious Force that is absorbed in a part knowledge or action, excluding the rest from its awareness. A wall of exclusion is created, limiting itself to a single field, domain, or habituation of movement.

Mind's Exclusivity, Ego, and Ignorance
Mind, though a great instrument of consciousness of life, is also a flawed instrument. It doesn't see the whole truth of any situation; it sees but a part of any truth. It tends to pick one side and say that one side is the whole truth, when there are in fact a multiplicity of sides that it rejects. Thus mind particularizes things, and most negatively for our inquiry, it is exclusionary.  It is this exclusionary nature of mind that in life is the source of the movement away from the unity and truth of the integral Knowledge.

Whenever we live in ego, there is the greater likelihood that Mind will manifest its exclusionary tendency. The more we are in ego, the more Mind tends to be exclusionary, moving away from the true truth, the whole truth, the myriad of truths; reinforcing our Ignorance. When we live on the surface of life, it supports and fortifies our separateness, hence ego, which reinforces the exclusivity of Mind that is the basis of Ignorance. By withdrawing from the surface of life to the depths, we overcome our ego and separateness, which enable Mind to move from its exclusionary Ignorance to exclusionary, integral Knowledge.

Exclusivity of Mind
It is not even in seeing the part (instead of the whole) that is the source of the Ignorance in Mind. It is rather its exclusivity, its insistence on its own part, supported by ego, that chains us, keeps us apart from True Knowledge in life.

Moving from the Part to the Whole
In any object or matter, there are two elements -- the various parts, as well as the whole of those parts. The Mind of man is limited. It only sees a Part, not the Whole. It divides and grabs onto the part it finds convenient, missing the other elements, not to mention the overall Whole or the deeper Essence. As a result of missing the Truth of any matter, Mind resides in a perpetual state of Ignorance. To perceive all of the parts, the Whole, and the Essence of any object or matter at any moment in time is to perceive the Truth. To ascertain it we must rise above Mind moving to intuition and an ultimate Truth consciousness. Sri Aurobindo calls it the Supramental Consciousness.

Perceiving the Whole Beyond the Pat of a Matter
-We know things in isolation to other related things. Thus, we live in Ignorance.
-When we expand ourselves, we move beyond our limited perceptions and see that many-sided integral relationship.
-The problem is that we see only a part of a matter, let alone the integral relationship of all parts.
-Our ego creates seperative nature, which causes us to be exclusively attached to the parts we know.
-We first need to move from the limited part to the many parts related to a thing.
-We can then begin to know how each part relates to all others, as well as the Whole and Essence.
-Then we move toward integral knowledge of a matter.
-At the spiritual level, each thing is integrally related to every other and the whole.
-The conscious Being is aware of this, but not the forms of creation it enabled, including us.
-In the lower consciousness, our normal status, we miss this integral relationship.
-Thus it becomes humanity's mental challenge for the next thousand years.
-Just now she doesn't even know its a problem.
-When we overcome ego, time, mind, and finiteness, we move rapidly to this supra-mental state of integral perception.
-Infinite success and and deep joy spring from this transformational status.
-Practical application: Listen. Keep the mind still when interacting with others. Embrace the other person's point of view. Seek to know all sides of a matter. Be self-giving rather than self-taking and asserting ego.

Limitations of Mind to Know Whole Truth
The mind accepts one truth out of all truths, and asserts that truth as the whole. And it's because our minds are normally rooted in the prejudicial nature of the vital consciousness, which asserts its separateness, its ego, and, therefore, its prejudicial predilection to the facts

Ego Reinforces this Exclusivity
The Ignorance, created by the exclusivity, is reinforced by the ego. When we live on the surface of life, it engenders separateness, hence ego, which reinforces the exclusivity that is the basis of Ignorance.

Arriving at Integral Truth of a Matter
I find myself striving to embrace all sides of an issue, all truth related to that matter so that I can arrive at a true integral understanding of it. Mind, even rational mind does not strive so; only seeking to assert its own limited truth. It is the mind of tomorrow.

Living in Vital Creates Subjectivity and Prejudice
People are centered in their lower vital consciousness of need and desires and attachments; of strong opinions, judgments, and negative attitudes. When we think from such a poise, we are filtering out many of the objectives facts that don't meet these vital standards, or we are twisting the incoming information to suit our ego-centered, prejudiced outlook.

Mind's Partial Knowledge
To insist that Mind's perception is ultimate is to insist on partial knowledge. Partial knowledge or knowledge of the part cannot claim to be pure knowledge or a valid one. (MSS)

Holding a Thought in Our Mind and Its Opposite
It is difficult to hold two thoughts in our mind that contradict one another. If they are opposite, how can we subscribe to one or the other? And yet the spirit-oriented individual who has transcended ordinary thinking tends to embrace all sides of an issue that make up the Whole, rather than the exclusive part ordinarily subscribed to. By moving our center of awareness inward away from the surface, we enable such multi-opposing perceptions of truth.

Mohandas Gandhi was the redeemer of India, bringing her to independence in 1947 after years of hard-fought battle. Can anyone but admire; no, revere the Mahatma? And yet his practice of "Ahimsa" -- non-violent action -- caused a 30 year delay in Indian independence, the partition of the nations into two (including Pakistan), with nuclear missiles pointing at one another. Also immediately after Partition, millions died in the separation. When  the British were on the ropes years earlier, and were on the verge of leaving the country through Indian force, Gandhi stepped in and halted that action because it was not derived through non-violence. Thus, independence was delayed in the name of the gimmick known as Ahimsa, bringing great suffering and problems in its wake.

It is difficult for the mind to hold these two apparently conflicting ideas -- Gandhi's greatness and his tragic error -- together. And yet that is the truth that overcomes our propensity to see only one side of an issue. For example, China annihilated the Tibetans in the 50s and 60s when she tried to make her way towards independence. The Dalai Lama and followers were forced into India. China had undertaken the most despicable actions to defend her territory: an abuse of the collective ego. And yet at the same time, the Dalai Lama realized that Tibetan Buddhism had become crusted over. In India and his travels around the world, he came to perceive a modern, new evolutionary perspective that he never would have enjoyed if he remained with his people in Tibet. Because he was forced to run, life compelled him into a new, dynamic perceptive of the religion he led. It is an irony of history that only an open mind -- i.e. a multi-side perceiving spiritualized mind -- can fully appreciate.

Each of us are tethered to a limited view of things. We stick to it fiercely. Yet Nature works on multiple fronts simultaneously -- enables what seem to be contradictory occurrence to happen at the same time. E.g. the EU might not have ever come about, or if so in hundreds of years, if the Nazis in the guise of evil hadn't rampaged through Europe.

Man in the 21 century and beyond will begin to unshackle the  propensities of exclusive mind, and embrace a true hyper-rationality of spiritualized mind, which is willing to look at all sides of an issue, and embrace each of those truth, no matter how contradictory they may seem on the surface.

Even the brute Nixon went to China to open up that once-closed land.

Mind's Prejudice
Mind, in approaching an issue, understands its own prejudices about that issue, not the issue at all. (MSS)

Limitation of Mind and the Ignorance
Our minds, though the essential instrument of human consciousness to perceive and comprehend life, is a flawed instrument. It doesn't see the whole truth of any thing; it only sees a part of any truth. It tends to pick one part or side and say that one part or side is the whole truth, when there are in fact a multiplicity of parts or sides that it rejects. Thus, the mind particularizes things, and most importantly for our inquiry into Ignorance, it excludes things.

It is the exclusionary nature of mind that is in life the source and cause of the movement away from the unity and truth of the integral Knowledge. This exclusionary aspect of mind is the cause of our Ignorance.

Seeing the Multiplicity that Make Up the Whole

One person wants to fight terrorism by wiping out the perpetrators. Another wants to stop them by eliminating the root cause -- poverty. Is it not possible to believe both simultaneously: i.e. to end terrorism by going after them even as we eliminate the cause, which is poverty? To hold two (or more) ideas in the mind is not only a test of a first rate intelligence, but the beginning of true knowledge, which is a spiritual quality. True knowledge is to see the multiplicity of factors behind a situating or subject, and to see their interrelationship, and to see their connection to an essential whole of truth relative to the subject. To see the integral whole of possibilities rather than the single part is a sign of the emergence of the spirit in the mind. To see the single part is the root of Ignorance, which leads to falsehood, folly, and wrong action. This is the normal status of humans. To see the multiplicity/Whole is to discover the Truth. When we move out of ego, we begin the process of accepting the multiplicities, and see the Whole. We move out of ego when we move away from the surface of life, to the depths within, where we discover our True Self and Soul.

Ignorance, Falsehood, and Evil
What we call Falsehood and Evil are simply extensions of Ignorance. What we call Falsehood is a result of our attachment to our Ignorance and unconsciousness. What we call Evil is a result of acting on the unconsciousness of Ignorance and Falsehood. This separateness, rooted in ego and enabled by the limiting action of mind is the root of all falsehood, and evil.

Moving from Data's Part to Intuition's Whole
Mere acquisition of data (e.g. in a company strategizing) cancels intuition. I.e. the data driven approach, known as the science of management, insists on the part, and then subdivides the part. We want to move from the part to the whole.  When we develop the intuitive sense we gain such perspectives (Paraphrase of MSS)

Knowing Cause and Effect on Various Planes
We do not perceive cause and effect in the vital and mental realm as well as we perceive it in the physical unfoldings of life. If we move away from the surface to the psychic and spiritual consciousness, we will know begin to know the rules of cause and effect on these planes, or rather the rules that transcend them.

Truth Belies our Certain Opinions
Even things we were so certain of in our opinion, such as perceptions of what is best for society, can lie shattered in pieces of ignorance when the truth arrives. It is a humbling phenomenon, once again showing the need for an inner status and the higher guidance to show us the myriad sides of any truth.

In the more conscious state the mind would be withdrawn from the senses, and be more centrally gathered within, separated from the bubbling of the surface life. From there one can think in a more rational way. One has a less reactive vantage point; more inclusive and integral view. From here one sees things in their right relationships; one is more open to the wider unfolding of possibilities, one is better able to see the many-sided nature of things, of the flow of life around us. We are more open to others, and their inputs and points of view. We become more open to, and in tune with, the events presenting themselves to you in the outer environment.

Moving to the Depths and the Subliminal
As we move to the depths there is greater and greater rising of positive influences of the subliminal being rising to the surface. The subliminal is in touch with the great positive universal forces.

Moving to Deeper Consciousness Enabling Multi-Sided View and Insight
By going deeper within, into our deeper consciousness will enable can help us move from our sense-based mind -- rooted in our feelings, emotions, judgments, and prejudices -- to the higher part of mind proper, where we see things objectively and rationally; where we engage in pure rational thought, rather than emotional thought. From that inner poise and status we can see the abundant myriad of facts around us, which in their multiplicity and variety lend themselves to insights. And from insights we can have integral insights and illuminations and intuitions that lead to ever greater conclusions, until we reach what we call the "integral knowledge and understanding" that Holmes seemed to have had at the end of every case.

Instincts of (Pure) Mind, Mental Life
Pure Mind's proper instincts are change, self-enlargement and self-improvement. It has faith in perfectibility, and its watchword is progress. -Higher faculties of Mind make it more efficient.

Truth Consciousness and Integral Knowledge
In the highest spiritual consciousness, the Truth Consciousness, there is knowledge of all parts, the whole, and the relationship of the parts to the whole for any object of knowledge. In Truth Consciousness there is Integral Knowledge.

When the person who reads these thoughts see the relationships of the central ideas, he will have attained an integral understanding of sorts. Integral understanding means a higher level of organization between the concepts. Higher levels of organization enables the energy of thought to concentrate into a power of thought that gives insight and can enable further results.

Knowing in Life
What helps us truly know in life? First, education and learning helps because it helps us learn the process of concept formulation. It also gives us a base knowledge. Second, experience of the ideas in life helps because it turns concepts into real realities for us. To fully and permanently embody these experiences is to see that idea open the gates to infinite possibilities in our lives. Finally, to be an evolved, integrated person helps because then one has the necessary attitudes, drive, will, and direction to constantly move our lives forward; in this case to move the idea we know into a realized experience.

Progress that is Towards the Whole

-A time comes when this partial knowledge becomes perfect knowledge or complete knowledge when the field of observation can be organised into a subject or a branch of science. We Perceive that Knowledge & Will are One in Our Higher Consciousness
We are capable of knowing without the capacity to will, or are willing without the capacity to know. But this is not the case either when human consciousness rises above the normal level or when we examine the consciousness of animals as it expresses in subconscious instinct. Emergence from Knowledge to Knowledge-Will in Animal to Human
In the subconscious instinct of the animal, we see the play of a severely limited (involved) but almost infallible knowledge expressing with a decisive power uncharacteristic of human beings. Levels of Spiritual Mind above Mind
Beyond mind is spiritual mind -- including silent mind, illumined mind where illuminations, light take place; intuitive mind where one has intuitions of knowledge without thought; and supermind, where that object comes from out of nowhere from within.

Moving Beyond Mind to Spiritual Mind
As the mind moves away from its connection to the senses, it utilizes its higher mental functionings, and beyond that functionings of spiritual mind. Knowledge from spiritual mind comes through silence which enables knowledge to spring forth, through illuminations and lights of knowledge, and through descents of the entire object of knowledge as intuitions.

When one lives more within from the depths of our being, less connected to the surface, the senses, we open ourselves to intuitions form the higher planes, giving us direct perception of the object of knowledge. 

Knowing without Thinking
Sri Aurobindo indicates that the human mind is a transitional instrument that will be shed in the course of our evolution. He means that intuition, revelation, and supramental perception would replace the current hard churning of thought, reason, and logic. Thus, in given moment, we would simply "know," perceive truths, garner insights, and comprehend that which is under inquiry without having to think things through. Knowledge about any thing just appears in our mind complete.

Actually, we hardly engage in our most basic reasoning instrument -- rational thought -- let alone evoking knowledge directly through intuition. Rather than thinking through things, seeing all sides of a matter, and coming to right conclusion, we use our reasoning faculty mainly to serve the needs and desires of our lower, nature -- including the urges of our vital and physical being. As a result, conclusions that do not conform to our ego-based needs, desires, opinions, and attitudes are filtered out, leaving us far from truth of any matter. It is irrational use of the logical, rational mind.

Still, direct revelation of truth without the need of thought would be a most compelling development; a milestone in human evolution, a shortcut to the truth, and, of course, a time saver! Imagine a conversation between two people where intuitional expression and knowledge is the standard. Revelations of knowledge would flow into our minds, and be passed on to the other person in a symphony of interaction, taking our exchange  into new, unforeseen directions. Insight that would have taken several conversations are garnered in one, leading to vast improvements in effectivity, productivity, and success.

It turns out that a number of individuals are having these intuitive like experiences today, although they are hardly conscious of the fact. However, if we make such direct access of knowledge a conscious act, then we can have these truth experiences constantly. How can we then consciously cultivate this infinite-like mental potentiality? Here are a few suggestions:

The first thing to do is to recognize when you have one of these experiences. That when you suddenly have a profound insight without the hard churning of thought, you have had an intuitive experience. Then you know it is a real and powerful phenomenon of life. If you then make the conscious decision to cultivate these sorts of experiences on a regular basis, then it will surely occur more frequently.

And yet simply recognizing and wanting it may not be enough to sustain such experiences; for we are prone to easily forget about it and fall into our old routines. Rather, we need to create a new basis of consciousness from which these instant knowledge experiences of spiritualized Mind can more readily occur. In particular, one needs to develop an inner orientation and poise for the mind to open and widen to the universal plane, from which we garner revelations of truth.

Since it is difficult to simply change our nature and forge a new orientation of inner calm, we can employ a substitute method that will help us progressively create that new inner nature. It is to practice the act of consecration; i.e. offering an upcoming event or current situation to the Higher Power. Offering a matter to the spiritual Force not only helps us gain the cooperation of life relative to our situation, but over time, a new orientation is forged within.

That in turn causes us to have greater overall faith, as well as a softer, richer, calmer poise and orientation. As a result, our mind tends to expand upward, opening to the universal plane where all knowledge resides. We then experience descents of truth more readily., which gives us the knowledge to make right decisions that lead to powerful outcomes that propel us to the heights.

Maximizing an Opportunity Presented from the Spiritual Perspective

• A man having an opportunity receives it in his mind or vital which is the part. He has to move to the whole where the spiritual term in the physical consciousness lies.
• Take a man getting a fine investment opportunity and let us trace that path and process here. Let him receive it as an idea of the mind or an interest in the vital.
• All the higher or lower points DO NOT lie in the proposal or in a rising column of his personality from head to foot, but they are all POINTS in his own attitude, not elsewhere.
• In the mind, the idea is a conception.
• He should move away from the conception on two lines, one above and the other down below. It will be a simultaneous movement, a double opening.
• If he gives up the thought of the idea - his mind becomes silent.
• When he tries NOT to understand even through silence - it becomes a vision.
• When he gives up the reliance on light - it changes into a direct intuition.
• When he gives up the medium of Intuition, he gets the pure knowledge of the project unmixed with Ignorance. Still, the ignorance is around.
• By trying to know there is light as a seed in the Ignorance, he moves to the Supermind. (MSS)

The Coming Super-Revolution in Our Ability to Know
The issue of whether a computer can match the current level of thought of a human being is an intriguing one, yet only touches a fraction of our potential to know and secure knowledge in life.

The real question is not whether a computer can match say 100% what humans are now capable of thinking, but whether through elevation of human consciousness we human beings are capable of knowing and cognizing at 10, 100, or even 1000 times greater the level we do now. This is the real Knowledge Revolution that awaits the world.

It may in fact take 50 to 300 years to reach this capacity, as we move from our productive but narrow focused human logic, which is exclusive, partial, and limited, to higher forms of perception through illumination, intuition, and revelation of knowledge; where we garner the truth of any matter from all sides in a flash. This is an example of a new evolution in human functioning that goes far beyond our current capacity to think and know, let alone the very limited capability of a computer/machine, which merely mimics the current limitations of the mind.

Einstein demonstrated this capacity to instantly know the entirety of a matter for a few seconds when the material formula of life -- E=mc2 -- was revealed to him, changing the world forever. Each of us is capable of opening to that universal Mind power not just for a moment, but ongoing throughout our day, creating 10, 100 or 1000 times greater understanding of any object of inquiry. This is the radical revolution of human perception that awaits us. It is a movement beyond the local domain of limited mental reason to the non-local domain of infinite capacity to perceive every and all sides of a matter or issue in an instant. Though it may strike some as science fiction, this capacity is a living reality, particularly for those who have learned to expand their consciousness beyond the limits of human logic, to spiritualized mind and beyond.

Consider these scenarios:

• A research project you are working on that you expect will take a month to complete is finished in two days when you suddenly know the answer to that project's most compelling problem in a flash.
• An email arrives in your inbox with the complete, multi-sided explanation of an issue that you have been grappling with from one partial angle, reducing your workload from 2 weeks to 2 hours.
• You garner an understanding of a subtle working of life regarding a matter, and as a result, you make the right decision that quickly attracts astonishing results, shortening your effort from months to hours.

These are but a few examples of the future-knowing capacity of humanity; surpassing our current ability by leaps and bounds. It is not merely to use reason to know a thing, but to move into complete identity with its many-sided truth, its totality, and its essence in the blink of an eye. Sounds super-natural? Actually, it is supra-mental, and an indicator of the next stage of human evolution.

Man's Stages of Inner Growth (away from the outer) & Mind
Man's stages of inner growth are:

A New Way of Living through Sudden Descents of Truth Knowledge
Is there such a thing as "Truth," or rather an absolute Truth behind an object, thing, or subject matter? I believe there is. Unfortunately, the mind, which is a great but limited development in human evolution, has not the power to grasp it.

Mind, the fundamental way we come to know the world, is a dividing instrument. It looks out on the whole of a thing, matter, subject, and divides it into one or more constituent parts, so that we can live our lives. However, it is a flawed instrument. Among its flaws-

-It tends to see only one side of an issue or object that consists of many sides.

-It takes that one or limited number of sides, and insists that it is the full, whole, entire Truth, when it is only but a woeful small part; even a false part. Thus, though the Mind is a dividing instrument to make sense of the world, it tends to be exclusive of all other parts.

-Supported by our ego-sense the exclusive knowledge becomes the basis for our error, falsehood, misconceptions, an ultimately wrong opinions and beliefs. That leads to wrong behavior and actions that lead to negative experiences in life, including pain and suffering. At its worst, it leads to evil.

If Mind had known the whole truth, the many-sided truth of any object or issue, it would be an excellent instrument for extremely successful living. Can Mind then rise into something where it is able to perceive the essential Whole of a thing; the many-sided Truth of any object of inquiry to enable this infinite-like life?

Yes, it can. When Mind withdraws from the surface bubblings of life and discovers a deeper poise; when it moves to a poise of Silence within, the truer, many-sided parts of any object reveal themselves. Insights begin to more easily arise in our Mind through our thought processes.

There is even a further stage. It is when intuitions of thought appear in our Mind without the need for thought. From the Silent and deeper poise within, objects of knowledge just appear in our mind as if from out of nowhere, without the hard churning of thought. We just know. One insight after another appears from out of thin air, each revealing another side of the Whole. Sometimes the Whole comes all at once. Then it is revelation, which enables us to overcome the limits of space and time, as we now able in an instant to have the full knowledge of the object or matter that would ordinarily take weeks or months of thought through considerable effort.

Through meditation and other techniques, we can penetrate our deeper nature, establish Stillness and Silence in the depths of our being, enabling integral knowledge, i.e. the many-sided truth of things to suddenly come into our Minds. It is an indicator of an entirely new way of living, in which the infinite potentials of life are miraculously drawn towards us in the here and now. It is but one glimpse into the next stage of human evolution.

Go Inward to Soul to Move Upward in Mind to Truth
An animal looks around; hears sounds and responds to the situation. Its knowledge is limited to what it perceives through its five senses. Any mental deliberation is limited in large part to this sense data streaming into the mind. We humans inherit this limited capacity. We are prone to see what is around us and come to a wrong conclusion. We arrive on the scene of a police incident and make a conclusion based on what we see. As a result, we come to the completely wrong conclusion, We do that a dozen times a day, and it occurs billions of times an hour across the world, creating a stupendous stream of universal falsehood. More astounding still is the fact that we humans are unaware that it is happening.

However, if we shift our consciousness inward away from the surface bubblings, perturbations and impacts of the visual and audio on the senses, we are better prepared to deliberate on the variety of possibilities before us. I.e. we are more likely to use rational thought, and think about and perceive the variety of possibilities and truths of that moment. Thus, the more inward our orientation, the more likely we will be able to perceive events and come to right conclusions.

As we move deeper within -- whether through concentration, meditation, prayer, etc. -- and away from the surface of life, we are far more likely to consider more than one side of an issue or thing. Thus, we get closer to the truth of that object in that moment. As a result, we have greater knowledge to make right decisions that end in positive outcomes.

And yet we can go deeper still, to the subliminal being and the Evolving Soul within which is in touch with a super-consciousness. As we do so, our mind expands further, as we more frequently have illuminations and visions of insight and knowledge. Archimedes "Eureka, I've got it!" is one famous example, as in a flash he grasped the solution to an issue he was grappling with. It is sudden truth knowledge coming into our thoughts as light. Further still, one can have direct intuitions of the object truth without the need for thought at all. The right knowledge simply appears in our mind, giving us direct access to the object of inquiry or matter. It is direct truth cognition; direct contact with the object of inquiry; and an indicator that we have moved to the deeper parts of our being.

The principle then is simple: the further we move within and distance our self from the frothings of the surface, the more our mind expands. By moving to a deeper consciousness and poise, we move from limited, animal-like sense mind; to rational, logical thinking; to clear thinking in silence; to light, illuminations, and vision; to intuition of truth through direct identity with the object. Thus, the deeper in we go, the higher we climb in the scale of mentality, and thereof far more effective we are in our understanding, decision-making, and actions. It is also the path that will take us from our current human condition to a supramental capacity to change the conditions of life from within.

Thinking, Silence-Understanding, Light-Knowledge, Intuition-Direct Understanding

• As the running thoughts are a disturbance to thinking, thinking interferes with understanding. Understanding is facilitated by SILENCE. It is known by 'Silent contemplation.' We often get the answer when we forget the problem or sleep over it.
• The medium for understanding in the human mind is thinking while in the Higher Mind it is silence.
• Knowledge comes to us as lights. We call it enlightenment. Knowledge is the source of light as light is the source of understanding ideas.
• Light reveals the knowledge as visions. The Illumined Mind does this.
• Thinking, Silence, light are the media at different levels to the understanding of the Mind.
• The mind is capable of directly understanding without any of these media.
• Direct understanding is called Intuition.
• The yogi understands by Intuition.
• As the Mind rises, it sheds its lower instruments and takes on higher instruments.
• Finally, it dispenses with all media - instruments.
• Intuition is a rational, natural higher function of our Mind.
• There is mystery about it.
• It becomes mysterious only when we mix thought and emotion.

Decision-making is simple, but a mere formality, once one has acquired the necessary man-sided integral knowledge of the subject or matter at hand. To come to this state, one must move away from the surface and into the depths of our being within, where ego breaks down, separateness dissolves, and connection to the wider universal spheres is enabled. From there knowledge comes readily from all directions; as understanding in silence, as light and illuminations of insight, as complete intuitions of the object of knowledge. Then deciding what is the right course of action from among the possibilities requires the smallest of mental efforts; if any effort at all.

Subtle Perception of All Aspects of a Thing
To observe things from endless points of view reveals is subtle perception that perceives the negatives and the positives in a thing. This enables insight, which can lead to intuitions; i.e. direct descents of the object knowledge into one's mind without thought.

Subtle Awareness of Outer Life
Watch the unfolding of life around you very closely. There is at any moment an indication of what is right and what is wrong; of what is problematic and how it will stay so in the future. It is an inner awareness and perception that enables you to make right decisions and take right actions. It is a marvel to behold.

Living in Depths Enables Experiences of Spiritual Mind
The deeper we live within the more we enable such descents from the various levels of spiritual mind. Also, as we use conceptual mind to analyze gathered thoughts, we gain a greater understanding. If there is a multi-sided perception of those facts, then insight comes about. Accomplishment
If we want to be great accomplishers in life, very successful people, bright stars and geniuses in our field, then we must be objective, live deep within, and have our insights coagulate into illumined and intuitive descents of ultimate truths.

Four Ways to Truly Know
The more we are open to the multi-sided facts around us, through our true objectivity of these facts, the more we are able to gain insight from those facts. Second, the deeper we live in our consciousness within, the more likely we are able to be objective in the first place, to be open to all the facts, which in turn gives us the many-sided view, and which inevitably leads to understanding and insights of those facts. Third, the more insight we have, the more the chance of spiritual experience of mind such as illuminations, intuitions, and revelations of knowledge, which enables one to acquire a multi-faceted, multi-dimensional integral knowledge. And fourth, the more we live deep within, the more we open the portals of spiritual mind on an ongoing basis.

Spiritual Mind Overview
Sri Aurobindo explains that there are level of spiritual mind beyond our normal minds; beyond mind proper. There is an ascending scale of mentality that starts with the lower fact-gathering and sense-based mind, that rises higher to that part of mind that expresses sentiments and values, rises higher still to the rational, objective pure mind we have been discussing, and then finally breaks through to spiritual mind. It is in spiritual mind that we have experiences of knowledge through silence, light and illumination and vision, and intuition. It is in those realms that the object of knowledge that we pursue simply drops into our minds without the hard thought-churning processes of mind proper. From these levels of mind we simply know that which we want to know. When we have the intuition, then the information, the object of knowledge we wish to know, enters our mind in full, with all of its details.

Spiritual Mind
Whereas mind proper comprehends the object of a knowledge via an intelligible idea, Higher Mind comprehends by silent observation or reception of the situation, Illumined Mind comprehends the object of knowledge when the idea becomes a vision or light, Intuitive Mind comprehends the object of knowledge through direct communication without the intermediaries of energy, idea, silence or light, and Supermind perceives the object of knowledge by having the object of knowledge within, by being the object, as soon as it tries to comprehend the knowledge, without the need for any communication from the object of knowledge.

Intuition
Intuition is a way of spontaneously knowing a thing in relation to its central, original truth.

Intuitions of Knowledge
Intuition are direct descent of the object knowledge into one's mind without thought.

Intuition Is Devoid of Falsehood
When one has an intuition the knowledge that instantaneously descends into the mind without thought is true knowledge; i.e. it is without falsehood in it, as ordinary thought can be. It is this way because intuition is a first kind of expression of supramental knowledge in which the inherent truth of a thing is experienced.

Reason Becomes Intuition Shedding Senses
The mind consists of a part that interprets the inputs of the body's senses. The mind also consists of the capacity for logic and self-conceiving new ideas, new possibilities, etc. As the mind moves away from its connection to the senses, it utilizes its higher mental functionings, and beyond that functionings of spiritual mind. Knowledge from spiritual mind comes through silence which enables knowledge to spring forth, through illuminations and lights of knowledge, and through descents of the entire object of knowledge as intuitions.

When one lives more within from the depths of our being, less connected to the surface, the senses, we open ourselves to intuitions form the higher planes, giving us direct perception of the object of knowledge.

Process of Intuition of Next Great Thing by Pioneer in the Organization
The founder of the company has the pioneer vision and intuition of something revealing itself as a new possibility in the society. Even if you are not the founder, you can act in this way as if you were the founder.

Then how does this intuition come about? This process of having the right intuition of what is the next great thing comes to you when you have a wider view, wider than your industry. If you are at the level of the factory, then you must see things from the level of the industry, if at the industry perceive at level of the opportunities in the economy, and from it to the nation as a whole. This will ensure intuition of the new possibilities appearing to you as a vision or revelation.

In essence what is occurring is that you are seeing things from a wider perspective, not from the limited part you now know but from the wider whole. Intuition in essence arises by looking at the part from the view of the whole. (Paraphrase of MSS)

The Process of Revelation of Knowledge
We can witness a process by which an individual moves from thought-based knowledge to revelation of knowledge. After assiduous study and understanding of the many sides of an issue or knowledge, we gain various insights into the object of inquiry. We start to think about the issues, and through logical thinking we understand a bit more. In that session we then stop the logical thinking that produces such insights, and observe what happens next, as revelations and intuitions of knowledge suddenly pour into our minds, without thought. Most powerfully we see that these descents of knowledge are actually dynamically new and synthetic understandings that creatively combine previous insights into a downpour of new revelations of insight into our minds. As a result of that rain of non-thought based insight, we now have a veritable mass of new understanding; one that could have taken years to acquire, but which has now come into the spiritual domain of mind in a few moment of time. This is the future way of knowing, of which a few fortunate individuals are beginning to have experience. 

Insight vs Intuition

Supramental Perception
Beyond intellectuality, insight, intuition, and overmental perception is supramental perception.

Supermind
The highest plane of spiritual mind is supermind, from which one can have supramental perception of knowledge.

Supramental Perception

When one rises above mind, even illumination, intuition, and revelation of understanding, one has the experience of supramental perception. In supermind one has the experience of the total realization/ideation of an object of knowledge without thought, as it simply is there in the mind anew. Supramental perception involves a totality of knowing, as opposed to the very partial, limited perception of mind that knows but one side of a matter. In supramental perception, one understands any issues from its many sides; as well as its essence, totality, and wholeness. Any thing know is perceived in harmony and relation to other things; almost the opposite of mind which guards its own limited opinion, not seeing its thought in relation to others concerning an object of knowledge

In supermind, one perceives the object of knowledge directly, which Sri Aurobindo calls 'knowledge by identity.'

Supramental perception also implies a supramental Will for its effectuation in life; i.e. the power for it to become real as a manifest, living reality. E.g. if you know a thing directly through supramental perception, there is also a power for it to manifest quickly and suddenly from seemingly out of nowhere. Sri Aurobindo refers to this power of sudden manifestation through supramental perception an opening "instantaneous miraculousness."

Finally, through Supramental perception, one perceives the true nature of existence. One sees what Sri Aurobindo calls (in his opus 'The Life Divine' and elsewhere] the ‘omnipresent Reality,’ which is in essence the Divine Origin extended to all planes of life. When one has supramental perception one sees that all things – physical matter, vital life, and mental thought are various forms of the divine Reality.  One also perceive how each and every individual thing in life – large or small, positive or negative, liked or dislike – plays a role in the unfolding of existence. This is what Sri Aurobindo says is 'to see the Wonder,’ which one can only perceive when one has risen beyond limited mentality to supramental perception.

Opening Up the Ranges of Spiritual Mind
... there are several ranges of consciousness between the ordinary human mind and the supramental Truth-Consciousness. [These are the ranges of spiritual mind. -Ed.] These intervening ranges have to be opened up and their power brought down into the mind, life and body. Only afterwards can the full power of the [supramental] Truth-Consciousness work in the nature. (Sri Aurobindo)

Supramental perception
In supermind the entire object of knowledge is known, as in intuition, but the knowledge arises as a creative faculty from within ourselves. It is thus a way of knowing beyond intuition.

Supramental Perception and Harmony
Sri Kamayogi says: "Supermind is aiming at Harmony of all forces."

What can we make of this?

As we shall later see in the chapters of The Life Divine, Supermind created the universe. Through its power of Maya, it could enable individual things, but each thing was still united to every other thing and the whole. This is Supermind's comprehending and apprehending function in the descent in creating a universe of forms out of Force. That involutionary process ends in near complete loss of consciousness in Matter, as only force remains. And yet involved is the seed of life, mind, supermind, and spirit, waiting to come out.

Though Supermind functions in this way in the involution, the decent; it is also there and available to humans in the evolution, i.e. the ascent. By rising to a higher consciousness beyond dividing and exclusive Mind, we open to supramental perception and power where we see any individual thing in relation to any other and to the whole. As a result of that truth-consciousness perception, in any endeavor we experience harmony; an inextricable Oneness. This is in fact the process of bringing about the Divine Life on earth: ever-higher harmonies through supramental perception and power. The power comes in in that through the perception we have the power to instantly make it a reality. So life around us is also harmonized and divinized.

Constant consecration through Mother enables our consciousness to move to a deeper poise, enabling us to rise in mentality from dividing, exclusive Mind to Insight to Intuition (direct thinking w/o thought) to Supramental perception. There we have direct, integral knowledge of the object, seeing each thing in its proper relation. We have in essence unity consciousness. Also in that consciousness, we have the power to manifest that unitarian, integral, direct perception as realities of life.

Supermind and Knowledge
Beyond spiritual mind is the ultimate truth consciousness of supermind. When we rise to the plane of supermind, the object of knowledge that we seek is simply in us; whereas through intuitions it descends from outside us. In supermind, when we want to know anything, including anything that we did not know before, it simply appears in our minds in total, in full. We embody a knowledge we never had before, perhaps never existed before on earth, as it just appears in our minds, it is just there within us. In that sense we seem to create it from out of nothing! In one sense it never existed before, therefore it has the character of something dynamically new and creative, and therefore enabling ultimate Delight of being.

Supermind which has Total Vision of the One and the Many
The highest instrument of Man is mind, whose vision is partial. Mind can perceive the ONE [i.e. the Divine Source]. It can also perceive the Many [i.e. the creation, the universe]. Mind has no faculty to see both simultaneously. He [Sri Aurobindo] rose above the Mind, reached [the plane of] Supermind, which is capable of a total vision. (MSS, with modification/additions)

Supermind and Truth
In Supermind one is one with the object of truth.

In supermind one knows the objective state of Existence (Sat), which is Truth.

Supermind is the intermediary between the objective state of Sat, i.e. Truth, and the universal and individual consciousness.

Supermind is truth consciousness.

Supramental Consciousness Where Knowledge and Will are Fused
-Supermind is both a Knowledge and a Power. It has the Knowledge of the Real Ideas and the intent of the Absolute to render a universe, and it has the Power to carry it out.

-In the supramental consciousness, knowledge and will are fused, enabling ultimate effectivity to render knowledge into reality.

Supramental Perception
The mind can individually see the possibilities, the evolutionary imperative, and the actualities in life. To have the supramental truth consciousness enables us to see these in their integral oneness. (Paraphrase of MSS)

Intuition and Supermind

Mental vs. Supramental Knowledge to Accomplish
Mind that plans, accomplishes, whereas as vital life may randomly achieve this at best. Planning is a function of mind, which organizes truth, which is actually there already in perfect emergence of Truth and infinite results when one has the supramental perception. Mind attempts to accomplishes through division, what Supermind does in wholeness and oneness. Mind is both an agent of, a lesser ray of the supermind, which it reflects.

Overcoming Ignorance, Dissolution, and Death through Supramental Life
If this Supramental consciousness leads our lives, replacing the ignorance and dividing mechanism of mind, then the exclusivity and separateness are overcome; ignorance is replaced by divine knowledge; and the right balance of energies (of the balance of life force and the form it inhabits) is restored, preventing dissolution, enabling endless life.

Spiritual Truth Vision of Conflict and Contradiction
We overcome the divisions and dualities of life (good and bad, light and darkness, positive and negative, et al), not by knowing them in opposing nature or by trumpeting the triumph of one side over the other, as the western religion's propound; nor by seeing such conflict and contradictions as maya, illusion, as some eastern religions advocate; but by seeing these pairs in their right complementary relation to one another. This is the spiritual Truth Vision.

Relation Between Events in Moment
One must be able to see any event in terms of every event [around us or in the world], and in terms of the center of life's personality. It means that what happens at a given time all over the world is collectively determined and individually expressed. (MSS)

Taking Another's Point of View as Supramental Perception
Having the ultimate supramental truth consciousness is expressed by taking the other person's point of view. Imagine you have a notion that the other side contradicts in some manner. Now there appears to be division. Then instead of reinforcing your position, which you believe to be right, you shift your consciousness, and see their contribution to the truth of the whole of the topic under discussion. Recognizing the other's contribution to the Whole of the truth is to have supramental perception. We shift from mind, which sees its own slice of a truth, to the wider whole of the truth, which is expressed in part by the other person. This has the effect of moving you to the whole of the truth, being in Identity and Oneness with it, which is secretly what we are seeking.

Taking the Other Person's Point of View
-Taking the other person's point of view is to activate the Supramental element in the mind.
-Taking the other person's point of view is the all-comprehensive power of life that puts the other person utterly at your disposal.... One will find when he succeeds that he will be treated as a VIP of life giving him the feeling for a while that he could accomplish anything he attempts.
-To take the other man's point of viev is to take the view of life.
-Not to be selfish is to take the other man's point of view.

With the vital and mind we align ourselves to ego, and perceive but fragments and parts of things. With the vision of Oneness one can see each thing in its right relation to the Whole, even as one perceives the Whole itself.

Knowledge
One stage of gaining a knowledge involves the learning of the individual pieces of the puzzle. A second is the interrelating of these parts. A third is the comprehension of the whole in its myriad of diversity while simultaneously perceiving it in terms of the One.

Subtle Awareness of Outer Life
Watch the unfolding of life around you very closely. There is at any moment an indication of what is right and what is wrong; of what is problematic and how it will stay so in the future. It is an inner awareness and perception that enables you to make right decisions and take right actions. It is a marvel to behold.

From Division to Unitary View of Life
At the lowest level of consciousness one sees the world as suffering, pain, ignorance, and failure. At another level higher, everything that is happening appears to be for the best; albeit a limited best. At the very highest plane everything is One; there are no conflicts and divisions, in that both sides of the conflict need one another for the higher emergences.

This is the unitarian view that humans will have in the future. A very few (if any) have it now, enabling ultimate awareness, insight, knowledge, and wisdom which supports endless accomplishment and joy, hence ultimate fulfillment in life.

Mind Will Learn Directly
One great challenge of expressing spiritual experience and knowledge is to portray them in the practical life. Then absorbing and living them becomes easier, especially for those who learn from example, which is the majority of humanity. In the future, as more mentally and spiritually evolved humans, we will simply learn from the original principle which we will absorb simultaneously as our own true understanding and real experience. In other words, mind will learn directly instead of through life.

Capturing the "Rain of Truth"
A "rain of truth" is constantly descending into our field of awareness, which we can call "the environment." Those who live in the depths within, in their deeper consciousness removed from the surface influences of life, are open it. It reaches the ground of their consciousness enabling them to know the greater truths, which lead to, in any moment in time, new, dynamic, creative, and right understanding, keen insights, and excellent decisions that if acted on end in perfect results. For others, meaning 99.9% of us, that rain of truth evaporates like a shower over the high desert, allowing us to continue on our way in personal, social, universal, and transcend Ignorance.

Open to Real Ideas
Real Ideas are streaming in from the supramental heights of the Supreme. If we are fortunate enough to be open to their influences, we can be instruments of evolutionary, even revolutionary change to the fabric of society.
