(Spiritual) Sincerity
Spiritual Sincerity
Spiritual sincerity is to truthfully want to
connect to the Divine and make spiritual progress.
I.e. you are sincere that you want to make
progress spiritually and follow that path, rather than it e.g. be
just a passing fancy.
Spiritual Sincerity
A spiritually sincere act is one done purely for the sake of the Divine,
not for personal benefit or for the sake of the ego. (MSS)
Scale of Spiritual Sincerity
Genuine spiritual sincerity elevates us from the
normal vital falsehood of human nature into the vibration of
Truth. The very slightest compromise is enough to plunge us
back into falsehood. (MSS)
Spiritual Sincerity
The Mother's
definition of sincerity is to be true to the Spirit, to the will of the
Divine. Spiritual sincerity is the attitude of doing a work because one
believes it is the will of the Divine and for the sake of the Divine,
not for one's own sake. It is this spiritual sincerity which when
organized has the power to accomplish any goal. (MSS)
The Way of Spiritual Sincerity
Being spiritual,
sincerity is related and inseparable from every other spiritual quality.
Thus, one who seeks to be wholly true to the Divine must also have a
complete faith in the Divine power and a total reliance on the Divine. A
complete sincerity leaves no room for doubt and no scope for reliance on
other powers. An executive who is spiritually sincerity cannot rely on
false methods to accomplish any goal. A spiritually sincere idealist
cannot have faith in the power of any type of external support or any
form of activity for accomplishment. In pursuit of his goal, he may need
to use money, interact with people in positions of influence and conduct
any type of activity, but his faith must always be in Divine and not in
the methods which he employees. He should not even rely on action of any
type as essential for accomplishment. He should understand that a
sincere attitude is far more powerful than any action and rely
exclusively on being true to the Divine, even when in the midst of
action. (MSS)
Spiritual Sincerity
Spiritual sincerity is to be serious about one's
connection to the Divine. I.e. it is not a passing fancy or thought.
Spiritual Sincerity that Brings
Happiness
"The moment you feel
unhappy, you may write beneath it: "I am
not sincere!" (The Mother)
Comment: Yes, if you
are sincere, you will truly follow your
deepest spiritual aspirations by
regularly practicing those approaches
that raise your consciousness to the
next level.
Unhappiness
indicates you have not been following
your inner regiment to the best of your
abilities, thereby attracting little or
no positive circumstance that normally
energize and bring deep Joy.
Let's then be
sincere and dutifully follow our chosen
spiritual discipline, enabling a dynamic
and ecstatic life!
Sincerity
By giving up
falsehood ENTIRELY, we are centered in Truth. Truth
gives us a strength. It is the Divine's strength. He cannot win with his
bluff against the Truth. It can be called Truth or Sincerity or higher
consciousness. (MSS, slightly modified)
Sincere Effort
to Uplift One's Self
The real question is
who is SINCERE about identifying the positive and negative
factors in our being and make the full effort to implement
it.
Most will change as life conditions change; when
it puts pressure on one. This is powerful but UNCONSCIOUS
change. Coming up with a life plan, including ways to lift
up our positives while holding down the negative, and then
sincerely implementing it is a sign of SERIOUSNESS.
Otherwise, lofty inspirations and powerful ideas will be
mere passing fancy.
Who is honest with
themselves and ready to pass this test?
Consecration,
Energy, and Sincerity
MSS once mentioned
to me that consecration (opening to the
spiritual Force thereby bringing life's conditions under
control) requires an enormous amount of energy. Not
just of the physical type, but of the psychological. If our
energies are deflected in so many ways, through wanting
attitudes, opinions, beliefs, etc.,
then there will be no energy left for consecration. Or if
there is a lot of energy, we will tend to deplete it in
these and other wasteful actions.
Then the question is how do we garner
the right balance of energies that are just the right
condition for, that promote efforts of consecration? I would
like to offer one, though there are many. It is Sincerity.
I.e. do we really want to engage in a spiritual life or do
we want Mother to help us only in desperate situations?
Sincerity concentrates our energies on the Divine
intent, will, and action. It focuses psychological and
spiritual energies, promoting consecration, just as
avoiding the negative qualities sap our energies.
Sri Aurobindo says the yoga in miniature
is "Aspiration, Rejection, and Surrender." Part of
aspiration is sincerity. Actually, it flows through all
three aspects. E.g., do we really want Mother? (Sincerity of
Aspiration) Do we really want to change our wanting
qualities? (Sincerity of Rejection) Do we want to give our
lives to Mother? (Sincerity of Surrender) If we do, there
will always be the right balance and focus of energy, which
will compel us to consecrate on a regular basis. Then our
lives will be thrilling, an endless wonder, as we see the
continuous effect of the Divine Mother's supramental action
on earth.
Overcoming Our Limitations through
Strategies and
Sincerity
One can speak to the Divine only when we are conscious of our
problem and ourselves, better still conscious of the Divine. When we
do feel conscious of a problem or ourselves, we can look inside and
see that we do NOT want to speak to the Divine. Sincerity will
unfailingly show where we are conscious or not. The only alternative
to insincerity is to change into sincerity. This shift is heavy,
difficult, and must be undertaken carefully, slowly and gradually.
Locate a work where you are unconscious and forget the Divine
- e.g. starting to read a book
- and make a decision to catch yourself in
the act at least once in ten acts. Achieve a breakthrough. Physical
urge, vital energy or mental preference will have a marked liking of
our forgetting. It has to be met, handled, broken, and progress
made. The key lies in the strategy and its sincerity.
Sincerity uses sincere strategies. Insincerity uses insincere
strategies. (MSS,
somewhat modified)
Sincere Personal and Spiritual
Growth through an Organized Plan
"The golden
RULE is not to achieve, but to preserve what is achieved. We
have to observe ourselves very closely and explain to
ourselves the nature of our acts. We always think of the
ideal to which we should reach, which is good in itself; but
let us know that it is only a thought. From where we are to
where we should go there are a great many steps. Let us know
all these conditions and find out what is the immediate next
step. If one is to act, if one is to do the right thing, if
one is sincere to himself, all that one can do is know this
next step and take it. Rationally that is the only thing he
can ever do. The rest he can only talk about."
This is the process of creation for the
aspiring spiritual individual. Goals of self-improvement
considered and perceived, knowing the strategies to get
there, and acting on them is that process. It is for those
serious in his endeavor. Then this person will become an
entirely new person, the spiritual individual. Otherwise, it
is a slow, semi or unconscious process of hit and miss,
using this and that technique of Appa's when applicable. A
life plan of his teachings that incorporates a way to hold
down the negative and uplift the positive shows sincerity.
It will enable personal and spiritual progress, even
evolution, marked by constant evocation of LUCK.
Just the other day I decided to be positive in my
attitudes for the rest of my life, holding down certain
specific negative ones, like anger, irritation, sarcasm, and
several others. I even though of catching and halting the
tiniest negative that arises inside me. If I do it AS A
SERIOUS PLAN, doing it sincerely with full effort, it will
be a breakthrough. Otherwise, I will have to go through the
hit and miss cycles of ordinary life; even with my knowledge
of Karmayogi's principles.
False Human vs. Divine
Sincerity
One can be sincere to his desire, ego, personality, subconscious
desire, his nature, etc. All this is not sincerity to Mother [the
Divine, Truth]. To be sincere to Her, one cannot be under any of
these conditions. (MSS)
Sincerity of the Soul
through Reversal and Consecration
Reversal of consciousness and past consecration are expressions
of the sincerity of soul. (MSS)
Spiritual Sincerity
Yoga makes a man into God. But, anyone can become of his own
life, if he is utterly truthful to Mother [the Divine, the Spirit,
the Truth]. (MSS)
The Future is for Sincerity of Truth
The
future is not for Ignorance or Superstition. Nor is it for the
insincerity of the art of diplomacy. It is for the Truth of
Sincerity. In one of Her messages the Divine Mother says,
"Men, countries and continents, Truth or the abyss".
The Future is not for rituals and ceremonies. It is not for religion
or religious worship. The Future is for the Spirit. (MSS)
Sincerity,
Fidelity as Guardians of the Way
Sincerity, Fidelity are the two guardians of
the Way.
(The Mother)
Indicator
of Sincerity in the Depths
Sincerity in the depths becomes complete
if its surface expression is smooth and sweet. (MSS)
Sincerity and Success
Sincerity is finally rewarded. (MSS)
Sincerity to Mother
I am sincere to Mother. [i.e. the Divine]
Is my mind sincere to Her? Mind's sincerity to Her is its
obliviousness to itself.
Divine Reference for Spiritual Sincerity
The central reference point for sincerity is
the Divine, whose power is infinite, omnipresent and universal. The
power of sincerity can be extended to reach any work, activity, person
or event, regardless of its relationship to society. When sincerity is
organized in the society, it acquires the power to reach or penetrate
where money cannot and can exercise dominion over all other social
powers. (MSS)
The Future is for Sincerity of Truth
The
future is not for Ignorance or Superstition. Nor is it for the
insincerity of the art of diplomacy. It is for the Truth of Sincerity.
In one of Her messages the Divine Mother says, "Men,
countries and continents, Truth or the abyss".
The Future is not for rituals and ceremonies. It is not for religion or
religious worship. The Future is for the Spirit. (MSS)
Sincerity
of Purpose: Beyond the Vital to Rational Views
A forward thinking
man was advocating that men and women should be free to decide their
actions uninhibited by social moorings or moral compunction. This
annoyed all his friends, married and unmarried. When he got married,
wisdom dawned on him. He confessed to his friends,
"I am ashamed of having thought of free action
by men and women before my marriage. It looks barbaric now that I am
married." He was sincere in his convictions
before and now. But it was the sincerity of vital feeling, not rational
thinking. The phrase Sincerity of Purpose has a wider implication, wider
than the thinking Mind. It speaks of Truths not locally valid for a
context or person, but eternally valid.
Sincerity of Purpose is
of the Spirit. We are in our vital emotions. Rarely in issues that do
not bother us personally, rational minds speak rationally... (MSS)
Organized Sincerity
It
is possible for a
normal human being to aspire to spiritual sincerity in one or a few
important areas of their lives and to organize sincerity with respect to
those areas. We do occasionally find even very selfish people capable of
extreme generosity and self-giving with respect to a lover, a child or a
guru. It is extremely difficult to consecrate all one's thoughts,
feelings and acts to the Divine, but it is possible to refer important
acts related to important events. In that measure these acts come under
the influence of organized sincerity. Organized sincerity is to express
each aspect, attitude and action relating to a work through the
vibration of sincerity. (MSS)
The Power of Spiritual Sincerity on the Collective
Only a formed individual is capable of
renouncing his individual preference in favor of the Spirit. The
individual who organizes spiritual sincerity relates each of his actions
to the divine center within himself and that is a universal rather than
individual center of consciousness. Relating to that center, the
individual's action ceases to be individual and its power becomes a
universal movement or power capable of acting upon the collective of
which he is a part. The Spirit is universal. Constant reference to the
Spirit generates universal power. (MSS)
The Future is for Sincerity of Truth
The future is not for
Ignorance or Superstition. Nor is it for the insincerity of the art of
diplomacy. It is for the Truth of Sincerity. In one of Her messages the
Divine Mother says, "Men, countries and
continents, Truth or the abyss". The Future is
not for rituals and ceremonies. It is not for religion or religious
worship. The Future is for the Spirit. (MSS)
Sincerity, Receptivity, Opening
Is there NO way of
one knowing the Divine? Yes. There is. The only way of knowing Her
is to become a Rishi as Vasista or Viswamitra. There is no short cut
to it. Sri Aurobindo offers a short cut and describes it as the
longest route. He discloses his divine secret to discover the Secret
for which He came on earth. He calls it Sincerity, Receptivity,
Opening in yogic language. In human parlance, it is to be TRUE,
utterly true. (MSS)
Sincerity of Opening and
Surrender to the Divine
Sri Aurobindo said that surrender was difficult. He had moved Truth
from above. All those who wished to do his yoga have only to open
themselves to the descending Truth. Sincerity and opening are the
conditions, surrender is the method. It is the Jivatma that should
surrender to Paramatma which means only realised yogis can do this
yoga. (MSS)

True Spiritual Sincerity
The complete organization of all planes
towards the divine Mother's
consciousness and the psychic centre
center within is true, spiritual
sincerity.
On Personal and Spiritual Sincerity
'Your sincerity is what will always
protect you.' (The Mother)
The Mother may be referring here not
just to Human Sincerity in our relations
with others and life, which is a great
thing of itself, but one's Sincerity of
following the Spirit or the Spiritual
Life. Taking to Sincerity will emit a
vibration that will protect you from
outer harm, and cause life to conspire
with your efforts in a positive way.
One can talk of Spirit, but not live it
in the details of one's life -- e.g.
consciously engendering Peace, Silence,
Harmony, Truth, Goodness, Love, Delight,
etc. in our inner and outer actions. Or
one may speak of the possibility of
bringing about a Divine Life on Earth,
but do little to make it happen. I.e.,
it is mostly talk, rather than true
Aspiration, Will, and Action on our
part.
So we can ask ourselves: are we sincere
in our daily lives, and in our spiritual
lives? E.g. do we practice what we
preach; do we advocate one thing and
practice another; do we bring the values
we subscribe in our work and efforts;
are our expressions of friendship
towards others sincere; are the promises
we make something we truly believe in?
are the spiritual Truths we subscribe to
something we actively try to propagate
in our lives; etc. etc.
All acts of sincerity will quickly evoke
the infinite from out of the finite, as
it goes to our deepest motives and self.
It causes life to spring into action, as
we ourselves have come face to face and
embraced the Truths of our Being.
