Solving Society's Problems
through Higher Consciousness

Knowledge Base
by Roy Posner and MSS

We can solve society's problems when we see beyond the contradictions of life. When we live in a higher consciousness, we obtain the higher knowledge that sees the higher harmonies which enable the resolution of every problem.

Ways to Solve Problems
There are many ways to solve a problem. When you take to them, life tends to cooperate with your efforts, and the problem quickly dissipates; often replaced with new opportunities. Here is a partial list.

-Give it more attention when it deserves it. Give it less attention when you are too preoccupied with it.

-Forgetting a problem often solves it.

-Use your mind to formulate it; considering the issue from all sides.

-Do not be stuck in your own limited view.

-Speak to others who might be helpful.

-Look for the solution in the cause of the problem itself.

-Every problem has a key to its resolution -- from an object, person idea, or act.

-Be focused, positive, and patient

-Despite it, take a positive, cheerful view of things.

-Move from anguish to inner calm and equality of being.

-Perceive negatives as positives in disguise.

-Offer the problem itself (as well as your responsibility) to the Divine for its resolution.

-Move to mental silence, allowing solutions to come through vision and intuition.

-Be as resourceful as you can.

-Change the wanting part of your being that the problem reflects.

-Shift a corresponding fixed mental attitude or belief related to it.

-Move from the current value to a higher one.

-Offer your gratitude in ways relative to the matter

-Be open to all sides of an issue.

-Be willing to change course.

-Since all problems in life are of harmony, discover how to create it.

-Move one or several levels deeper in consciousness as required.

-Accept whatever is required by life for its resolution.

-Be positive and have faith that the solution will come.

-Take the extra step; make the extra effort.

-Think for yourself; avoid the view of the herd.

-Plan out exactly what needs to be done when you know the solution.

-Note the change required in yourself based on the problem, and make it.

-Accept what you are reluctant to accept.

-Intensely pray for the Higher Power to resolve it.

-Deal with it square on.

-Come up with practical solutions.

-Be patient and still.

Following the Process Solves Problems

Will Solves Man's Problems
Man can eliminate any problem on earth. It is a question of will. Will comes from higher consciousness that aspires.

On Solving Problems
-Man is resourceful. He can solve any problem if he truly puts his mind to it. If he also opens to the spirit in that process, it will be unfailing. In fact, solutions will arrive instantaneously.

-The power of intention to solve a problem will tend to attract solutions from out of nowhere.

-If a problem has not garnered enough of your attention, focus your efforts on it intensely. Solutions will suddenly come on their own from unexpected sources.

Following the Process of Accomplishment in Problem Solving
There is one fundamental process of creation in the universe. The same process that enabled the universe to emerge from a Divine source, is the process by which we create and accomplish in life. For us the process is to envision a goal, willfully want to accomplish it, organize the details and strategies and carry it out with skill and right attitude. If we do so, we will accomplish our goal and then some. We will also garner the sudden cooperation of life for our efforts. Sudden good fortune will descend on us from all directions.

This same approach can be applied to problem solving. Once we focus on a problem to be solved, intensely want to solve it, consider the details from all sides, and act skillfully and consciously to find solutions, they will quickly begin to appear. Even if we struggled with solutions earlier, now they will suddenly arise before us. They may arrive through intuitions of thought, where the solution simply springs into the mind from out of nowhere; or it may come in the form of a response from life, where good fortune suddenly comes to us from unlikely sources, such as a sudden phone call from an unknown party providing the complete resolution to our problem. The latter is what I call the miraculous-like phenomenon of ''Life Response."

The key in solving the problem is to really forces on it, want it, and examine it and staying positive at every step. If we do that, life will cooperate and brings forth solutions from all sides, from outside, as well as from within.

Exploring Details of Problem Attracts
Interest in exploring the details of a problem can instantaneously attract a positive response from life that solves it.

Higher Consciousness Solves Problems

Solving Society's Problems through Higher Consciousness
-Life evolves through Nature's slow and difficult path. However, we can reverse that and evolve through our higher consciousness. We can thus avoid, Nature's slow, painful, and difficult way.

-There are endless ways to rise in consciousness. Let's confine ourselves to how we can solve society's problems.

-One thought is that we can eliminate problems of the earth by having the WILL to do so. When there is the will, nothing can stop that effort. Lack of material resources as a factor falls by the wayside.

-If we are willing to change course, it will serve greatly, as we saw in China, India, and Ireland in recent years. Change your perspective and have the will to move in that new direction and nothing can stop that force. That approach can serve for any problem.

-We need to see beyond our current limited view. We must acknowledge all sides of an issue, all truths, and then decide from that point. Fresh, innovative thinking will add to the power of that knowledge.

-In every problem, there are limited views of it -- whether by the individual or society. That must be overcome as described above.

-Rational, logical thinking must prevail -- not irrationality, superstition, and falsehood.

-On the other hand, the problem solvers need to think for themselves; not be determined by the limited understanding and will of the herd. New understanding that comes from Self-determination is a key to solving anything.

-For those prepared, one can devise solutions through powers beyond mind, including illuminations, intuitions, and revelations of knowledge. One can simply Know what is best and implement it through higher spiritualized powers of Mind by opening to those universal powers. The knowledge of a solution can thus come instantaneously.

-One can develop that inner and universal intuitive capacity by moving to a deeper orientation within.

-Such individuals will be the cosmic pioneers who solve problems through intuitive capacity of silent and spiritualized mind. They tend to be geniuses in their field. Geniuses will be most helpful in any problem-solving endeavor.

-There is a spiritual Force descending on the earth. Anyone that opens to it in reference to a current problem can quickly change its conditions. If the aspirations is ardent, and the knowledge of the issue detailed, calling in the Force can quickly bring good fortune to that domain. It is the greatest power at our disposal.

-In the interim, we should shed all limiting habits, attitudes, opinions, and beliefs relative to the issue. Moving within to enable descents of intuition, and opening to the spiritual Force are then particularly effective.

-The results is instantaneous miraculousness -- aka "Life Response."

-All problems in life are problems of harmony. Wherever there are contradictions and conflicts between parties, a higher harmony should be brought to bear. Look for solutions to problems by examining the two sides of the contradiction and finding a solution that transcends both, yet is acceptable to both. This is not compromise, but a creative movement to the New.

-To achieve in life, including solving society's problems the process of creation needs to be followed. I.e. a vision of what is to be accomplished, the will to see it through, the organization of the details, and the execution through high values, skills, and attitudes. It is an unfailing approach.

-Taking to all of these solutions we create the greatest Efficiency in life -- i.e. the ability to create the greatest result with the least effort in the shortest period of time.

-There is a center of Solutions to any problem. Every party must reorient and change themselves relative to that Essence and Truth. To the degree they do, they solve.

-E.g. in problems of poverty there is the issue of the poor's reversal from poverty consciousness to a new orientation towards wealth. At the same time, the government could be sincerely serious in trying to solve that problem. Each party must make the necessary adjustment relative to that Center of Truth that is the problem's solution.

-In the process of social development, a pioneer formulates and then executes the subconscious, emerging will of the society, moving it forward. In problem solving there will also be pioneers who perceive things never quite seen before, yet which the society subconsciously aspires for. The pioneer will lead problem solving through his or her initiative.

-The outcome of every decision and actions is determined by the consciousness behind. Raising consciousness through a vast array of inner and outer methods/behaviors are the ultimate determinants of the efficiently, creatively, dynamism created.

-Through inner and spiritual means, limits of possibility dissolve, time and space and overcome, as the infinite moves into the finite. In this way, the problems of society are rapidly and most efficiently and elegantly solved.

-The solution to any problem is found in the problem itself. Understand it, and you will know the solution.

-Look at any problem in society and correlate it to a wanting personal attitude or belief. If we change it, the society will suddenly respond in kind, once again proving that the outer is a reflection of, and one with the inner.

-(MSS) There is no problem that does not have a KEY as its solution. In moments of crisis or despair or even in moments of utter elation, MAN seeks an object, a person, an idea or an act which his subconscious longs for. That is the key.

-Interest in exploring the details of a problem can instantaneously attract a positive response from life that solves it.

-Moving away from ego, selfishness, and separateness, and embracing the truth in others and in the real conditions of life serves the problem-solving cause.

-Seeing the evolutionary arc -- of where things have truly been, where they are, and where they are going will help in solving the problems of society. To truly perceive that arc is to know the evolution of society itself.

-Developing the subtle sense of what is happening around you, and therefore knowing what is the right direction or tack to take.

-Knowing the subtle principles of life -- such as inner-outer correspondence, the laws of acts, etc -- which enables you to get at the truth of the matter.

There is No Scarcity, Only man's Unconsciousness
...
Man squanders, overdoes, unconsciously offends the laws of life and creates problems. He forgets he has infinite creative talents. His own survival is because he has infinitely adapted himself to the environment. Resources are plentiful when we approach them as they are. They become scarce the moment we insist on life rising to our occasion. In Israel where the rainfall is only 11, one finds the best agricultural productivity in the world, whereas Sirapunji in Assam with a rainfall of 454, the highest in the world, suffers from water scarcity in summer.

Waste, neglect, over-utilisation are ways of life that are unconscious. Prudence, attention, maximum utilisation are conscious ways of life. Human life on earth is a record that speaks of the infinite resourcefulness and infinite creativity of man. He must grow conscious of his environment and his own inner capacities to discover that there is no real scarcity in the world other than what man has created by his own unconsciousness. (MSS)

Human Transformation and Overcoming the Problems of Life
For 10,000 years humanity has labored to raise itself up. Yet even now there is great suffering, anguish, disease, hunger, poverty, pain, ignorance, and falsehood. All of the movements, political and social, have so far failed to really remedy these problems. Things remain for the most part the same. Man suffers, he experiences pain, he experiences the endless ups and downs of life. Religion, though noble in its intent, has also failed to solve these problems. It has merely helped us cope with them. It has not changed their fundamental nature.

To change their fundamental nature one needs to understand the processes that caused them to become the way they are. Then we need to understand the necessary methods and techniques to overcome these limitations. Throughout his life Sri Aurobindo endeavored to do both. With such an understanding we are better prepared to take the right actions in life that enable the permanent transformation in life that we seek; so that the problems of the individual, of the community, of the society, of life on earth cease to exist; now and forever.

He said that by transforming our own nature, by opening to the spirit, the divisions and dualities of life gradually give way. By rising above the inherent limitations of our physical, vital, and mental functioning to the higher mental functioning and spirit beyond; by moving inward into the depths of our being where we touch our inner spirit and soul, which itself calls to the greater spirit above, we are lead to our higher nature and consciousness. From that poise we can then extend that personal transformation to our surroundings, to others, to our businesses and communities, to our nations and to the world at large.

Through this process we begin to replace our normal functioning and consciousness, rooted in unconsciousness, ignorance, falsehood, and ego, with a higher consciousness, a spirit, a Force above, that we can call into our lives to further enable our progress. By overcoming our limiting nature, by opening to this Divine force, we begin to see a life of emotional pain receding, a life of physical pain giving way, and a life of mental confusion and ignorance changing into one of insight, knowledge, understanding, intuition, truth, harmony, unity, and oneness of purpose. Living our lives from this higher nature we come to see life continually cooperating with us in every way. We work in harmony with others; we experience a wonder of perfection and truth in all our activities, in all circumstance and situations of life. We come upon the infinite potentials and possibilities of life.

Physical Solutions to Problems is Folly
Physical consciousness approaches [through force-only, ego, inflexibility, non-learning, unwillingness to change, through outer means only, etc.] to solving problems devoid of mental perception is folly.

Liberated Individual Can Solve World's Problems
If this shall be the
century of the liberated INDIVIDUAL, we will see that he will abolish all of the problems of the world himself when freed.
(Paraphrase of MSS)

Solve Problems by Going One Level Higher
One can consciously solve the problems of one level by going to the next level. E.g. solve political problems of conflict between India and Pakistan, or Israel and Palestine through economic cooperation and development. (Unconsciously problems solve themselves through great struggle, slowly, in a long time frame.)

Move to a Higher Level to Resolve a Lower Level Problem
There is a relatively simple method to follow to resolve problems in life: simply move to the next highest level of consciousness. E.g. if a nation is at odds with another -- which is in essence political -- then they should look toward reconciliation through economic means. The political will be smoothed over through economic cooperation. Likewise, if there is economic strife between two nations, they can move toward greater cultural harmony. The economic issue will then take care of itself in the wake of deeper cultural bonds. Thus, the ascending scale in this particular domain is political, economic, cultural, and spiritual. Similar scales can be developed for other collectives -- whether business, government, or education -- providing simple guidance for resolving lower level problems through higher level solutions.

The same fundamental principle applies to individual humans. If we are in conflict with another, say at the vital/emotional level, we should move to a higher level still -- i.e. the mental -- to resolve the conflict or impasse. Shedding conflicting feelings for the greater neutrality of reason creates headway for new understanding and positive opportunities. Similarly, if ideas clash at the mental level, one can rise above our limited point of view and embrace the many-sided view of an open and rational mind. It is a movement from exclusive mentality to an all embracing, rational and reasonable one, taking in all sides. Moreover, by taking this higher mental tact, we tend to experience insight as well as sudden descents of intuitions of truth and knowledge.

There is also a shortcut method to this overall approach. Rather than move to the next highest plane, one can simply take directly to the Spirit. That will overcomes all problems at any levels below it -- whether physical, vital/emotional, or mental. When we offer the matter, to the spiritual Force, we will see that new solutions, possibilities, and insights arise out of nowhere, overcoming the problem or difficulty at the lower level. That opening to the Higher Power tends to attract fresh, unexpected, stunning, creative outcomes from out of thin air.

There are many ways to express the spirit, from being calm and still in the face of difficult situations to shifting your position from one of selfishness and assertion to selflessness and self-givingness. At that plane, all problems below it tend to quickly dissipate. Thus, any connection to the spirit -- including inner silence, reduced and soft speech, equality of being in the face of difficulty, self-givingness, seeing all sides of an issue, and opening to the spiritual Force -- will resolve all difficulty in planes below, from mind to vital to body.

Life has evolved from matter to animated, vital life forms to mentality to spirit. Our center is however mostly vital, which is possessive, demanding, egocentric, seperative, and exclusive. If we move to mind and spirit, we can overcome all conflicts in the levels below. E.g., our human vital interactions can shed their negative element, and turn harmonious and thoroughly enjoyable.

Also, if we are centered in a deeper poise within, instead of being overwhelmed by the surface occurrences of life, we can at every moment perceive how we can move to the next higher level where life is harmonious as well as miraculously responsive.

Why not then list several areas of your life where there is difficulty, and determine what inner or outer behavior would be a movement to a higher level. If you identify it and then act on it, not only will problems be resolved or dissipate, but you yourself will begin to the next highest level in consciousness, where you will experience greater clarity, focus, energy, success, and joy.

Better Solutions Through Higher Consciousness
Humans consist of physical, vital/emotional, and mental planes. In the last 50 years or so the power of mind has begun to emerge, though very slowly. We are mostly dominated by the impulses, desires, attachments, of the vital. Therefore solutions to world problems are often based on the ego-sense of the vital, rather than the less prejudiced mechanism of the mind. Just moving to this higher state will be a boon to solving many of the world's problems, as we move away from the vital attachments of being self-observed with our money, power, social group, or allegiance to religion or nation. At the mental level we begin to see the broader truths that the reality of the world present. To move to this level in earnest would be a great achievement for the world.

Further still we can move to the powers of the spirit or spiritual mind. At this plane new levels of intuition are developed in the individual; thoughts, understanding, solutions, and answers descend into the mind from higher planes, with less need to go through the mind's limiting process of understanding by bits, divisions, half-truths, and ignorances. When pioneering individuals learn to open to the higher mental and spiritual forces, higher knowledge, understanding, and insight will descend into the conscious awareness of the individual, bringing better solutions to world problems; solutions that have a natural unity and integrality that sees the bigger picture, that understands the broader scope, that embraces the greatest number, that is less prejudiced in its result, that creates a higher unity where there is conflict, that is more creative in its possibilities, that is more dynamic, tapping infinite potentials of life that are made real when one enters the higher mental and spiritual domains.

If decision makers, leaders, and thinkers can begin to operate from this poise then the solutions that will intuitively appear in their minds will have vastly superior quality and power to negotiate and solve the abundant problems of the world.

Solving Problems through Higher Consciousness
As we ascend into our higher status of being we begin to realize that any problem, whether within ourselves or without in the world, can be solved. As we develop our higher nature we increasingly perceive the unity of everything in life. At the spiritual level we experience a profound oneness of purpose, rather than our normal status of separateness.
At that level of unity, harmony, and oneness we perceive that every problem has a solution, or rather that there is an infinite scope of solutions. This is the case because we are able to move beyond our own limiting sense of self, of our own limiting ego-sense that breeds separateness and ignorance. We are able to break through into a wider sphere, not limited to our previous shallow, small view of the world.

At that point the individual is better able to see his problems in the wider context of his relationship with others, of the environment, of the world, and even the universe itself. He senses oneness everywhere; within the various parts of his being, and in oneness collaboration and integration with the world around him.

He gains a broader and deeper view and insight, which inevitably leads to new,  previously unthought of knowledge, wisdom, and insight. Where there was once a limited knowledge, an ignorance based on separateness, there comes into his field of vision new knowledge, new insight, and newfound solutions based on a broader, deeper, wider perspective of his existence. The wider field also gives him wider possibilities and potentials for answers, solutions, and actions. In essence, the spiritual experience of oneness enables man to move from a limited being to a limitless one.

Perceiving the Necessary Higher Value that Solves Problems
Man normally reacts to the problems and comes up with the solutions, partially neglecting a CLEAR understanding of the current value, which is not enough, and the necessary higher value that would enable the expanding energy to flow harmoniously. (Man does not use mind to know this clarity. He is vital, and thus solves problems as they occur, missing the clarity of the deeper value that needs to shine for all to see.)

Power of Preparation
The more we prepare for a negative occurrence -- such as an attack, a tsunami, or an earthquake, -- the less likely it will occur. The more we ignore preparation, the more we attract their occurrence -- in frequency and severity. That defies all common sense, but seems to be the way of life.

Solving Problems through Higher Harmony

Solutions to Problems and Harmony
For all problems of existence are essentially problems of harmony. (Sri Aurobindo)

Harmony as Solver of All Individual, Social Problems
All problems of life can be solved through greater harmony. Likewise if there were human unity on earth, then any problem of social development can be overcome.

Resolutions of Problems Through Higher Harmony
All problems in life are problems of Harmony, says Sri Aurobindo. E.g. California energy crisis is one of distribution within the state and among the states, and more comprehensive and collaborative intrastate and national policies; food shortage in world is due to food abundance in one place and shortage in another. When greater harmonies are created between social entities problems are solved and disappear.

Going Beyond Mind, Spiritualized Mind Solves Problems

Cause of Problems in Society Due to Limits of Mind, & Its Resolution
Society evolves through higher harmonies between the social entities. In this way all problems, conflicts are overcome. The ego of the social entity is overcome.

Every advance of Humanity is Accompanied by a Problem

  • Every advance of humanity > problem
  • Industrialization > pollution
  • Automobile > road accidents
  • Money > inflation, deflation
  • Economic development > unemployment
  • Green Revolution > pesticide poisoning
  • Genetic engineering > fears of new threats
  • Democracy > popular illiberalism (Zacharia)
  • Internet > internet crime, pornography and terrorism

Humanity's problems are directly a result of the way in which mind functions; i.e. it linearality, the way it thinks in divisions and aggregation, the way it thinks in opposites, its inability to see the whole beyond the part. When we transcend mind to spiritual mind we break mind's limitations and thus overcome her problems. (MSS, slightly modified)

Beyond Mind to Solve the Problems of the Modern World
It may be that the problems of the world are overwhelming our current mental capacity to resolve them. Only when we move to higher mind of illumination and intuition, and open to the casual power of the Spirit, will we be able to solve all of modern life's current problems.

Preemptive Problem Solving in the New World

Life divides into Nature and Soul. It is mostly the workings of Nature that we experience in our daily lives. It’s way of progress is slow, difficult, and painful. On the other hand, Soul -- i.e. higher consciousness; of the Spirit -- is experienced far less.

The Tsunami of Asia, hurricane Katrina in the US, and 9/11 are movements of Nature; as is war, disease, and various forms of conflict, hardship, and tragedy. The world unfortunately often progresses through this torturous method. In particular, it tends to deal with problems only after tragedy has run its course. We are forced to follow Nature's way of progress, because humanity was reluctant to solve these problems in the first place. Nature has stepped in and rid the world of its reluctance, its unwillingness, its inertia, its lack of cooperation, its lack of action, through its difficult methods.

This however is the old way. We need not progress only through pain, difficulty, and tragedy. We can avoid it by being proactive. By exercising our mind and having the courage to see what is before us, and then act on it is the better, the more conscious way. It is the way of Soul; avoiding Nature’s difficult path of contradiction, conflict, and pain.

The lesson of Tsunami, Katrina, and other tragic circumstances are that we can no longer wait for such tragedies to unfold to solve problems. We must reverse course, and become preemptive; using the power of rational mind to see the true conditions, and have the courage and will power to act to change them. This is the way of Soul, the new form of progress that awaits humanity, replacing the difficult ways of Nature.

Solving the Problems of the World through Spiritualized Mind

Sri Aurobindo, the great Indian spiritual figure of the last century said that the ordinary human mind, though it has served us well, can no longer keep up with the issues and problems of the world. He suggested that we must move our center of consciousness above mind proper, which is limited and tends to subscribe to one truth at the expense of others in any object of inquiry.

What is then above mind? It is spiritual Mind, where all truths -- i.e. all sides and shadings of an object of inquiry -- are known. It culminates in the realm of what he calls ''Truth Consciousness"¯ -- aka Supermind -- where knowledge of any matter is not only fully known in all its dimensions, but where that individual or collective holding that knowledge has the full power and will to see it through -- i.e. to make it a living reality. It is the realization of the Truth of a matter, where knowledge and will are fused -- giving one ultimate insight into a matter and infinite power to implement it and thus rapidly affect and improve the conditions of the world around us.

This is a lofty spirit-based goal that will enable the people of the world to deal with all of its problems and concerns -- and then some --, which it is increasingly unable to do now though the limited thinking capacities of ordinary our human mentality. It should be noted that there are levels in between the ordinary current human functioning of mind and this lofty Truth Consciousness alluded to, including -- (1) moving to rational thinking (something still woefully absent in too much of life); (2) silent mind (i.e. right knowledge and insight that comes through stillness of mind); (3) and intuitive mind (where knowledge of a matter simply descends into one thoughts from the universal plane). These are capacities that any individual can learn to acquire in the course of one's life, so that one can meet the pressing conditions of life. E.g., rather than wait for mental discourse on a matter, a revelation of knowledge can simply descend into the mind that can be quickly used to solve a local or world problem. Rather than waiting years or decades for a solution, this profound unthought of insight simply drops into one's mind in a flash. Geniuses in one's field experience this all of the time; whether a Einstein or a Ramanujan or a Sri Aurobindo. This is the ultimate mental efficiency that the ever-increasing problems and issues of the world cry out for.

How then does one enable such supra-thinking capacity? It occurs by developing a deeper consciousness within. By shifting our orientation from the surface of life to an concentrated poise within, marked by stillness of thought and equanimity in the emotions, the individual's mind begins opens to vast universal planes, enabling truth knowledge to pour like rain. Doing so enables him to be filled with vast knowledge, and thereby far more easily resolve the world's pressing problems. In this way, decision-making is made radically more efficient; as we invite the greatest quantity and quality of insight in the shortest period of time with the least effort. This is the approach Sri Aurobindo was looking for when he stated that our current mentality and way of life cannot cope with the ever-accelerating conditions and exigencies of life in the world. That only through man's inner orientation can he develop the right poise that will let infinite knowledge pour into his mind from the heavens, enabling him to cope with the present, while ushering in a vast new future.

Going Beyond Mind to Solve Problems in Government
Sri Aurobindo says that the problems of the world are so great that they cannot be solved by mind. Something more is needed, which are all the planes above mind to spirit. Dilemmas are constantly rising in the society that cannot easily be solved by mind. Perhaps they can begin to be if all of the sides of an issue are understood, which means the utilization of Substantial Mind, which man does not currently use, Instead he is reactive, i.e. physical, or moved to results when he feels like it, i.e. vital, or thinks about problems when they are in his field of vision only; i.e. he is of lower mind.

It is alleged that the US has the lowest rate of taxation of the industrialized nations. Two popular, though contrary conclusions have issued from this. One is that we need to create higher taxes, or at least higher for those not paying their fair share so that we can enable not only a balanced budget but have the necessary funds in government to institute plans of progress. In other words, lack of taxes is related to social inequity and instability. Another view is that the US has prospered directly because of low taxes. I.e. it is because the rate is so low that the US has become the world economic leader. Thus we have two seemingly rational views viewed from the perspective of the part. Each side is happy in their beliefs because it is "subjectively rational" from their side; which is of course a paradox.

To be open to the other's point of view is one step in the right direction. The next is to acknowledge our ignorance, and take to a study of the truth. I.e. we can study the issue -- in this case taxes -- from the available knowledge, and then come to conclusions. This would lead to insights. An agreement can be come to that such understandings would be accepted by the government, regardless of the party in power, i.e. independent of politics. There would be some form of independent council.

Men and woman who understand a bit of Integral Knowledge theory can take these insights, and through silence, invoke illuminations and intuitions of an even higher order of understanding and knowledge . In this way, they contribute by bringing fresh understanding to the subject. The direct method to accomplish this is by opening to the Force relative to the issue.

The Mother says the individuals who wish to be the evolutionary spearheads of the spirit in society need to become the government. Such agents in positions of authority can undertake these approaches.

His statement that the world in its current status of consciousness cannot solve the ever-accelerating problems confronting it is the first principle that can guide all other initiatives for progress.

Changing the Inner to Make the World Respond

Changing the Problems of Society from Within
If you change the inner, life automatically responds on the outside. It is the law of inner-outer correspondence, expressing through the phenomenon of life response, i.e. sudden good fortune.

Thus if we change the inner, the corresponding problem of society can rectify itself.

We can also make life respond by applying the spiritual Force on the matter, including any problem of society.

Individual Power Over the Collective
The individual has a power over the collective; not only outwardly but from within.

Change the Collective's Conditions by Changing Corresponding Element Within
You can change the conditions of the world by changing your corresponding wanting conditions within. It shows the power we have to affect the collective from within.

Affecting the Status of the Collective from Within
-An individual through his change in consciousness can affect the condition of the world, i.e. any collective.

-An individual can discover a corresponding element in himself that is related to a collective problem, which can instantly have an affect on it.

-An individual through his deep intention related to that collective can move the problems of the collective towards resolution when their is a complementary opening to the spiritual Force.

Abolish Corresponding Qualities in Self to Change the World's Problems
So long as you do not have the power to change the world, it is useless to say that the world is wrong. And if you abolish in yourself the things that are wrong in the world, you will see that the world will no longer be wrong. (The Mother)

Our Reaction to a World Crisis
-The intensity of a world crisis forces individuals of consciousness to go deeper within to overcome corresponding vital reactions and emotions; to discover deeper and more varied truths that can help the world situation.

-Like an illness or an emotional problem, the more intensely negative you relate to a world problem, the more it gets aggravated. When you withdraw your focus, events take a course more positive relative to your position. It is another example of inner-outer correspondences, as well as our capacities and relationships to the world as universal beings.

-All of the worst attributes of society are correspondingly there in the individual. Thus, one way out of the misery of society can be accomplished by the individual who removes the related limiting aspects through his own evolution and transformation.

Man's Choice on the Border of Light and Darkness
Man is on the border where Light and Darkness meet. So, his CHOICE at each moment is of significance to creation and to his life. ''Set the man right, the world will right itself,"¯ is a maxim. (MSS)

Affecting the Problems of the World from Within
When you observe a politician who is clearly in the wrong, it may be wise to hesitate before condemning him, and consider the electorate that put him in power. It is too often their falsehood that fails to gain the public's attention. Not realizing that the newly emerged politician is representative of a certain type, or of a certain movement in society is a blind spot of the media and in our public awareness.

When Jimmy Carter ascended to the US presidency in the 1970s, it was not just because of his energy, goodness, and capacities, but because of fresh, new energies emerging from the society -- in this case, from a more enlightened South (after a hundred years of backwards thinking). We see the same in the reverse, where reactionary forces in the society propel like-minded individuals into the public spotlight, including our office holders.

Interestingly, there is another opportunity available to us when we observe the problems of society, or a wanting leader, or the social forces behind him. We can look at these developments through the prism of our own individual selves. I.e., rather than rail at the problematic developments outside ourselves, we can look inside and discover a corresponding wanting element there, reverse it, and watch as conditions outside ourselves suddenly begin moving in our favor. Through this process, warring nations whose situation we have anguished over suddenly move toward peace; the wanting leader we have railed against suddenly curtails actions harmful to society; an important social or environmental development long-delayed suddenly moves towards fruition; and so forth. It is the power we have to quickly change circumstance outside ourselves from within. It is also an indicator of the profound relationship that exists between all things -- individual, social, national, global, universal, and transcendent.

Let's explore our example a little further. Let us say that we would like to see the conflict between two warring countries end. We have also come to see that their differences are rooted in the virulent hate they feel for one another. If we can discover the corresponding ''hate"¯ in our own hearts -- whether in the form of a negative emotion, a hostile attitude, or a hardened opinion -- we are likely to see in the days and weeks that follow an unexpected thaw in relations between the two warring parties.

Or, let's say that we are aware of the falsehood of a particular leader, but through introspection, we become aware of our own life-long tendency towards skepticism and cynicism. Well, if we shed these troublesome qualities, we are likely to see big changes in the corresponding elements and individual outside ourselves in the days and weeks ahead. E.g., the divisive leader might unexpectedly reverse his beliefs and adopt programs more to our favor, or there may even suddenly appear justifiable rumblings for his ousting from office, and so forth.

We believe there is no relationship between the outer life and outer inner selves; that these are two distinct and separated worlds. However, that is an illusion, a distortion of our surface consciousness. From a deeper perspective, we see that there is no separation between the outer and our inner condition, that there is a profound oneness between all things in life. Therefore, if we change our status within, then the outer will quickly, if not instantaneously respond in kind. This is what I call the phenomenon of ''Life Response."¯ It is happening all of the time, but we miss its subtle workings!

There is also another way to approach the wanting social conditions we observe. It is this: when something in the outer environment disturbs you, simply withdraw all emotional attachment and connection to it. As above, soon thereafter, life will move in the direction you favor. The mere act of disassociating and detaching yourself from your intense feelings enables life in the world to reverse, and evoke results that favor your position. It is an experience I have had a number of times throughout the years, as have a number of my friends and colleagues.

The bottom line is this: if you want to change the world, identify and then change the corresponding wanting quality within yourself. Also, withdraw all intense emotion towards the issue, while remaining informed and concerned. By the way, if you are centered in a deeper poise of calm and mental silence, then you will more easily identify such emerging forces in society -- seeing them in their right balance and perspective; and you will know precisely what you have to change within to trigger the life response on the outside. At that point, you will be living a very different sort of existence; one that I call a New Way of Living.

Affecting the Problems of the World from Within Ourselves
Has it ever occurred to you that you and I as individuals can actually change the world, alter world events, including our immediate social environment by utilizing powers of higher consciousness?

For example, one approach is to open to the Force when thinking of a problem. One individual intensely called to this spiritual power to end the California energy crisis at the time things were the most difficult. Stunningly, one month later this problem that was expected to only exacerbate in the short run virtually evaporated. Even one of the companies who helped precipitate the problem, one of the biggest energy concerns in the world, fell out of grace and is now out of business. How could one person have such an effect and power?

We all have this power within us. We can move the world by moving from our outer being and interactions in life and diving deep down into the depths of our being, within to our inner being. From there we can touch and call a Force that can enable the world to change. If we move within ourselves, and call a force to change a great problem that is in our field of awareness, it has the power to vibrate out and effect such great issues, problems, and concerns around us. You might want to try it some time to overcome a major problem that is of great concern to you.

We have forgotten that we are not only an individual being, who can find his individual Self, but a universal being who can find his universal Self. So just as we can change our immediate outer world from the inner movements, we can change the environment, things going on in society, on earth, in the universe as well, through an intense aspiration directed to the truth consciousness. It is powerful and perhaps startling for one to have such experiences. It is a whole new domain of life response, making one aware of our ability to marshal our vast inner resources to affect the non-personal world outside us.

Another approach along the same line is that whenever you see a problem, such as a major social or political or economic problem, you can try to find a corresponding weakness in your own self. Then once you identify the corresponding limitation, make the effort to overcome that limitation, and you will see in very short order that the social problem in your field of awareness will begin to recede and even evaporate.

You might say what does such a large problem have to do with little bitty me? Well, first of all, everything in the universe is connected. We are aware of the connections between things at the more obvious gross/material plane. If I bang the hammer, the nail goes in. If I speak to you on the phone, you respond. These are causalities and their effects at the gross plane that we all perceive. However, there is also a subtle plane, which binds everything together in a commonality of energy and spirit. There is a great web that permeates the universe; a Cosmic web that ties all being, circumstances, and situations in the cosmos. If one strand on that web is "plucked", related strands respond in kind. In that way we can say that if we reverse one of our small attitudes or other limitations that correspond in some manner to a large social problem, we will have plucked a local strand on the web which will cause related strands to respond in kind. If you change a related aspect in yourself to that big problem, you will see that the larger problem, no matter how far away or how large, recede and eventually evaporate. That is a hidden power in the universe that humans will come to recognize more and more in the coming decades.

In this light it has been suggested that, for example, if one Israeli citizen and one Palestinian could change their current feelings from intense hate to love, then the Israeli-Palestinian problem would simply disappear. Or, if one person who is working on solving a problem, such as the Kashmir dispute between India and Pakistan, could stop blaming others, such as historical figures or nations that are worthy of blame, the problem would ease. That person would be giving up that a related intensity of attitude within himself, which would release positive energy, triggering a positive life response from that bigger concern, issue, or problem.

Using the Spiritual Force to Change the Conditions of the World

Using the Force to Affect the Outer Environment
The individual can use the spiritual Force to overcome limitations of the outer environment. Life will suddenly respond.

Effect on the Collective through Consecration
A consecrated act can affect not only our own selves, but many individuals -- such as everyone in the local community, or the entire population of a state or a nation. If a person is deeply interested in the problem that is affecting the collective, and consecrates the issue with great intensity, life can respond overwhelmingly and eliminate the burden for the entire community.

Resolution of Great Social Problems by One Individual Availing the Force
Mankind aspires for a pollution-free world. While the disposal of nuclear waste is no mean accomplishment, plans are afoot to set up four hundred nuclear power projects in Asia in the coming decade. Some people in such movements are anxious to get rid of such dangerous moves. One man's perfection can save the world is what Sri Aurobindo laid down. Whatever the problem, if one man in any such field can aspire for that Force to come into his own Perfect Work, that problem will be solved for the world, be it poverty or unemployment or radioactive fallout. This is the spiritual possibility the Force has made available to all men since 1956. When people succeed in such ventures, Mother says it is not announced by the beat of drums. (MSS)

Creating Universal Reponses
We have forgotten that we are not only an individual being, who can find his individual Self, but a universal being who can find his universal Self. So just as we can change our immediate outer world from the inner movements, we can change the environment, things going on in society, on earth, in the universe as well, through an intense aspiration directed to the truth consciousness. It is powerful and perhaps startling for one to have such experiences. It is a whole new domain of life response, making one aware of our ability to marshal our vast inner resources to affect the non-personal world outside us.

Through an intense aspiration and opening to the higher powers, to the Force, an individual suddenly ended the California energy crisis; while one very uncomfortable woman invoked a sudden cooling rain storm.

Connecting with Soul, Spirit Solves Problems

Benefits of Solving Problems through Spirit
The Spirit acts widely. Your target is fulfilled many times over. It is achieved pleasantly and effortlessly. Absence of labour or effort is one characteristic of the Spirit. When the Spirit is in action, a work of years comes to fruition in months, rarely even in days. Spirit moving into action, apart from acting swiftly, raises your status and achieves by the new status.  It always accomplishes more than intended. A problem suddenly transforms itself into an opportunity when the Spirit comes in.

[However] Seeking the Spirit for any of those advantages is NOT seeking it, but the advantages. (MSS, reassembled)

Spiritual Approaches to a Mission to Mars
Several years ago, people at NASA in Pasadena, California were struggling to work out a problem related to the second space mission to Mars. The problem, much to their consternation, was that the parachute for the Lander was not opening properly in their tests. Eventually they solved the problem, the mission launched, and ended with the second touchdown of an American craft on the Red Planet.

In trying to resolve the problem, they of course used their minds to solve a variety of issues. That occurred by (a) continually examining empirical evidence, and (b) by using the logical and rational capacities of the mind of the typical engineer and scientist. As such, they were more attuned to formulating solutions through the lower sense-based and the somewhat higher logical mind than through the use of inner spiritual approaches that lead to descents of illuminations and intuitions of knowledge. Perhaps certain individuals did receive unexpected revelatory answers to problems. Many certainly took to Spirit in another way, by praying at the time of the launch, for a perfect takeoff, and doing the same just before the craft was about to touch down on Mars after being incommunicado for several nervous minutes. These were certainly moments when individuals involved in the mission took to Faith.

Ninety percent of us do have faith in a Higher Power. It is invoked most often when we are in desperate straits or aspire for an important positive outcome. That is usually as far as we engage Spirit; i.e. we take to the Divine only in times of trial and tribulation. A life dedicated to the continuous invocation and utilization of the Spirit is a rare thing indeed. For example, few open themselves to the spiritual Force before beginning a major work or activity, even though doing so not only leads to far more perfect outcomes, but to the sudden onset of miraculous-like results from life.

There is yet another way to take to Spirit -- by bringing Silence into our minds. We can establish an inner poise of quietude and peace through deep concentration, meditation, and other means, the results of which are bound to be great. One common outcome of that approach -- especially if one is engaged in a thoughtful work -- are sudden descents of illuminations of knowledge; even intuitions and revelations of the truth of the object of inquiry. Imagine if the scientists had used this approach. A problem in all its complexity would have been quickly solved, as insights would have simply appeared in that person's mind from out of nowhere. It is a fact of subtle existence that an inner, silent orientation tends to attract sudden descents of truth knowledge from the universal plane of Mind. Through that approach, a multi-month problem -- as was experienced at NASA -- can literally be resolved in a day, as answers simply appear in the mind. In addition, if we open to the Spirit before engaging in an activity, the problems is prevented from arising in the first place!

From this analysis, we can see that there are various ways we can take to and utilize Spirit. The most fundamental way -- one we are all familiar with -- is to call the Higher Power when we are presented with great difficulties and challenges in life. That is an expression of Faith in the Spirit. Still for the average person, taking to Faith only occurs on very rare occasions: usually when life becomes extreme. On the other hand, a continuous opening to and utilization of the Spirit -- whether by consecrating acts to the Higher Power, or by taking to Silence, or by being continually Self-giving to others -- is indeed rare. And yet, it is precisely what living a spirit-oriented existence is. It is not only the path that enables the infinite potentials of life to move towards us bringing success in short order, but it is also a life of gentle sweetness, inner serenity, and the utter joy and delight of being.

The people at NASA and elsewhere could have certainly used these approaches to easily overcome issues that pressed on them before this launch, and it can certainly be used by them and others in the future. Fortunately, there is sign of hope in this regard, as the first mission's craft was aptly named "Spirit."

Ultimate Powers of Solving Society's Problems
The discovery of our inner, personal soul or psychic being is the way out of our ego, separateness, universal Ignorance, and the divisions and dualities of existence. Connecting thus within and a further opening to the Supramental Force and Consciousness is the key to our progress and transformation, and to the transformation of the society out of its ignorance, falsehood, division, suffering, and pain.

Silence as Foundation of World Peace
It is from a status of Silence within that we can elicit peace and harmony among the nations of the world.

Overcoming Society's Falsehood through Soul
If society is Ignorant and (especially) False, what are the direct strategies that will enable it to become Knowledgeable and True? In whatever they do, in their present professions and homes, members should discover their personal evolving souls.

Understanding Fields through the Spiritual View
During the seventies and eighties we were analysing every aspect of national life from the point of view of the Spirit. If there is a spiritual view, it must enliven the field and energise work. We came upon innumerable views on agriculture, hire purchase, adult education, GDP, inflation, practical programmes, tourism, traffic on the highway, etc. by seeing it through the perspective of the spiritual view. The perspective is enormously widened, and the insight is infinitely attained. (MSS, somewhat expanded on)

Spiritual Understanding of National Priorities
If there is a spiritual view, it must enliven the field and energise work. ... The Spirit of understanding national priorities is more with the political leadership of the country than with any other sector such as administration or other wings known as establishment. (MSS)

How Spirit Expresses
The Spirit expresses as Oneness, Peace, Integral Knowledge, Truth, Power, Delight, Love, Beauty, Infinite expression, non-Time bound expression, amongst others.
-When we move to our higher consciousness, we enable these expressions of spirit to enter into the details of our lives life.
-When we move within to the depths of our being, away from the surface, when we connect to the transcendent Force, these are spiritual ways of enabling higher consciousness. Just below these are the life ways, through goodness, self-givingness, humility, compassion, openness, and a hundred other high values of life.

'The Life Divine' Provides Insights into Spiritual Methods of Instantaneously Solving World's Problems
Anyone can appreciate the power of the great Insights and Principles expressed in The Life Divine. Evolutionary theorists will appreciate his evolutionary philosophy. Businessmen will be heartened by his methods to bring out the infinite in life, as they discover a power that can enable ten or a hundred times their current accomplishment. Likewise, social scientist will newly perceive the solutions to the problems of the world as they use spirit to enable deeper perceptions of the problems in life; to perceive their multi-faceted facts, qualities, and nature of any subject; and from such deeper perceptions and insights into the truths of the world develop far more effective solutions and action to overcome these problems of life. Also, educators will become aware of a Higher Knowledge that can be disseminated to students and other learners, who themselves will discover new ways to absorb knowledge through the higher capacities of Mind born of Spirit.

Knowing the Past Causes to Solve Current Problems
If we seek them out, all of the facts and knowledge of the recent past are available to us to help us know the root causes of all of our current problems. Once ascertained it becomes a mere formality to come up with the solutions to the problems of the world. Then it remains a question of energy and will.

The Solution to a Problem is Found in its Cause

It is said that the solution to every problem lies in its cause. If that is the case, then we can look to the true cause of any problem -- including its various sides -- and come up with viable solutions.

After WWII, the West installed the Shah of Iran in power to replace his father. His father was aligned with the Nazis, and the son himself had the reputation as a playboy who would serve well the oil and other strategic interests of the West.

Unfortunately, for the Shah, the oil profits were not seeping down into the hands of the people. As a result, they remained poor and became very restless. In anguish, they lashed out at the Shah and overthrew him, installing a radical Islamic fundamentalist government. The rest, as they say, is history. The religious fanatics kidnapped the US hostages, and later fought a disastrous war against Saddam Hussein, in which over a million men died. Tens of thousands were even sent into battle by the Ayatollah with only the Koran in their hands!

The solution to the problems of Iran, or for that matter, most of the Middle Eastern and Arabic countries, can be found in the source of all of the trouble -- poverty. In that nation, she took to extremism out of frustration of poverty of the masses. Like Iran, if the individual nations, with the cooperation of the world, conspired to eradicate poverty, then radical fundamentalism and all other sources of friction in these extremist nations can be abolished. Fundamentalism came as a response to poverty unaddressed; thus, poverty is the solution to radical fanaticism.

We can look at any problem around us and see the solution in the cause. We should examine the problem from all sides, yet understand that the solution lies in the origins of the problem itself. If we look there, and have the courage to deal with the facts, then we can overcome any obstacle, enabling endless progress in life. Moreover, life is likely to respond with instances of sudden good fortune to the attempt.

Recently Ireland changed course and gave up radical terrorism. Instead, it dealt with its own economic failures of the past. It developed policies of low taxation, free education and medical benefits, and others, leading to miraculous-like improvement in the last decade. Now it is one of the most prosperous counties in Western Europe; whereas only a decade ago it was at the very bottom. She had seen the solution to her problems by understanding its root cause --- poverty -- and thereby had the wisdom and will to overcome it; making a truly heroic psychological and material effort. We can do the same in our own lives by bravely seeing the solution to our own problems in the cause, and then acting wisely, which is bound to quickly attract the infinite potentials of life to our doorstep.

Overcoming a Perceived Problem
When you perceive problems as difficulties you suffer. If instead you remain silent and defer to the Divine, all goes well.

On Predicting the Future
Ours is not to predict the future, but to learn from the present by being aware of its subtle suggestions, its precedent formations, the interconnectedness of things, the underlying values, their history and causes, so that we can learn the right lessons and take the right actions now and in the future, or, if necessary, avoid all actions to begin with.

Ours then is not so much to predict, but to predetermine.

Knowing the Solution to a Problem in Society Before the Event
When a puzzling problem harasses one, everyone tries to help him with an idea, but in vain. At last when somehow the problem is solved, its solution looks simple and obvious. To know what is obvious after the event beforehand is wisdom. It is said anyone can suggest meaningful alterations to a house after it is built, as it requires no intelligence. To do so before the construction, one needs forethought.

Anyone can be wise after the event. But very few can be so before the event. If you want to acquire that wisdom, recognize the direction in which the nation and society are moving and take your decisions accordingly. (MSS)

Preventative Action
One takes precautions when one is not feeling well or ill before one disturbance of the body becomes chronic or acute. One goes in for an oil change to insure smooth flow of fluids so that the car does not have serious engine or other problems. The manager periodically interviews with the subordinate to work out knots. Even the prime minister of the nation discusses with the staff pending issues. Perhaps the best analogy is the consultant from the outside who is welcomed into the firm to discuss problem areas. If the client is truly sincere, and the consultant has the skills to penetrate the problem, it can lead to a great progress. Perhaps the term "preventative medicine" says it all.

The same approach can prevent problems from acerbating in individual nations; either through internal checks and controls, or the involvement of the international community.

Mind, i.e. rational mind sees the value of preventative action. The other planes don't see it, or see it poorly.

It is a practical way to abridge time; i.e. the reducing future stress through the present right action. Also, the present moments of the future, living on this basis, would absorb the happy positive lessons of the past, cumulatively adding to the necessary knowledge

It is conscious progress of Mind standing in for soul, as opposed to unconscious development through Nature.

By applying spirit such potential problems of life reveal themselves clearly and harmoniously for quick solution, or miraculously resolve themselves suddenly and abundantly.

Necessary Higher Organization of New Expansion
The differential between the energy that is blossoming as a new expansion in society and the organization of that society to sustain that expansion shows itself as the acute pains, problems, and sorrows we see all around us.

Overcoming the Organization Differential that Shows as Suffering in the World
The differential between the energy that is blossoming as a new expansion in society and the organization of that society to sustain that expansion shows itself as the acute pains, problems, and sorrows we see all around us. (MSS Comments in Blue)

[MSS Comment: Profound observation. Suppose someone can make this fact intelligible to the public concerned, he will be regarded as the most important person of this century.  The distance from such an observation and the training of it as a mental statement is great.]

Examples:

  • The Bubonic plague was a differential between the expansion of the society and the lacking cleanliness of urban areas that helped trigger the great misery. The cleanliness that craved for adoption exerted itself like this -- as plague.
  • The energy of Lydia [in Pride and Prejudice] that was not matched by the organization of Mr. Bennet's consciousness who did not take responsibility for his family which contributed to the shame of the elopement.
  • The overwhelming stress on the infrastructure (highways, living quarters, etc.) when Silicon Valley expanded vastly three years ago, which ended in a degree of economic and labor collapse.
  • The failure of a rapidly expanding/industrializing Europe to overcome the balkanization, disharmony, and rivalry of its nations, which supported the outbreak of WWII.
  • The rise in human energy as the world now expands, including the reality of globalism, is accompanied by AIDS, where individual human's physical/vital is not organized for control.
  • 9/11, where the US has rushed to the lead after the Cold War, but has not organized in its consciousness the knowledge of its complicity in the arrival of the evil doers. (It is also an indicator of the lacking coordination and integration of the US and Europe; of the world that is expanding and the plight of the Middle East and other bastions of suffering and unrest, etc.)
  • All the stresses in modern US society such as cost of health care, highway accidents, etc. do not match up well with an expanding material base. The psychological organisation at the collective or Individual level is unable to cope up with the increasing material plenty.

Solutions:

  • What begins to fill this gap, to overcome the differential are the discovery and implementation of the requisite missing values.
  • What overcomes the differential is a movement to higher consciousness. It is a movement upward in the vertical plane, from where one is and what is needed; from the current energy that enables the expansion to the required control from the next higher plane.
  • Man normally reacts to the problems and comes up with the solutions, partially neglecting a CLEAR understanding of the current value which is not enough and the necessary higher value that would enable the expanding energy to flow harmoniously. (Man does not use mind to know this clarity. He is vital, and thus solves problems as they occur, missing the clarity of the deeper value that needs to shine for all to see.)

Sharon expected Arafat to be a terrorist. Arafat expected Sharon to not want an independent state for the Palestinians. Both proved true at that point. Their own self-conceptions were prophetic. Positively or negatively life always responds to one's self-conception. However, when one moves from one's limited self-conception to an openness of possibility, life responds positively in kind.

The greater the density and complexity of relations between the nations of the world, the greater the deterrence to conflict and war.

Unifying Work and Spirit in Nations (i.e. their Integral Wholeness)
The West as in America and the East as in India are at the extremes of work and Spirit. It may be asking too much for each to directly influence the other to enable each sides greatness in full. Each however individually can bring themselves to solve their problems and utilise their opportunities in the integral way.

Sri Aurobindo's integral view is a perfect model for each to follow. He said that the hour has approached where the world can integrate Material Prosperity and Spiritual Realization to enable the evolution of the world. How to begin to do this? The best solution is for a few individuals from each side to try to live His integral ideas.

Callousness of the West and Negative Life Response
Thousands die every day in Africa of AIDS and Malaria, but little is spoken of it here in the West. It is callousness of the worst sort. It attracts "bad karma," which is the principle that what you sow is what you reap in life. 9/11 and situations like it thus comes as a negative response from life in return for our callousness to a variety of the world's problems.

We do not see that our lower consciousness --whether our own or that of any collective -- is constantly attracting negativity from the field of life. Look around and examine your life, and watch for negative circumstances that come to you. It is most likely related to lower movements of our consciousness; it is especially there in our wanting attitudes. Let us try to identify a negative attitude and then change it. Life will then respond to you ON ITS OWN with sudden good fortune. Problems will suddenly solve themselves, and sudden opportunities will arise from out of nowhere. It is the instantaneous miraculousness of Life Response.

If Western callousness can turn into true concern -- including true follow-up to our positive public statements -- new solutions to the problems of Africa, the Arab world, and elsewhere can instantaneously spring forth on their own. The key is to move out of our narrow, self-centered attitudes that separate us from the conditions of the world around us. It applies not just to the West, but to any country, any culture, any individual.
