Process of Attaining
Higher Life
For those committed
to the Higher Life the process of its attainment is aspiration (for the
Greater), rejection (of the lower), and surrender (to the Divine Will).
Spiritual Aspiration
Spiritual aspiration is the yearning for communion and connection
with the Divine.
Aspiration
By aspiration it means the aspiration of the Soul. (MSS)
Aspiration
Aspiration is the yearning of the Soul
for the Spirit.
Spiritual Aspiration
Aspiration is spiritually to want to
raise one's consciousness, to connect and commune with the Spirit, to
reach the greater heights of personal progress and evolution.
Man is an Eternal
Seeker
Man is an eternal seeker. He seeks for the Godhead. He is the runner who
attains not his goal. (MSS)
Intention vs. Aspiration
Intention is used interchangeably with Aspiration, though the latter
also has a spiritual definition and meaning. [as
described here]
Aspiration for the Divine
The one thing to do always is to remain firm in your
aspiration to the Divine and to face with
equanimity and detachment
all difficulties and all oppositions. (The
Mother)
All Seeking is God
Seeking
As all roads lead to Rome, all seeking of man is God-seeking. (MSS)
Descent to One's Ascending
Aspiration
Aspiration
for the Force is the ascent that enables a descent of
Light and other powers of Spirit into our being that enable us to
reformulate ourselves into our ultimate evolutionary possibility.
Sincere Spiritual Aspiration
If you have a sincere aspiration to the spiritual change in your
heart and soul, then you will find the way and the Guide. A mere mental
seeking and questioning are not enough to open the doors of the Spirit.
(Sri Aurobindo)
Aspiring to Achieve the Divine
Aim and Instantaneous Miraculousness
Instead of trying to achieve his
own goals, can he try to achieve the divine aim?
If he agrees will his resourcefulness
be exercised for that?
In that case, he will witness the
infinite emerging from the finite.
Instead of relying on his own
capacities will he rely on the Divine capacity?
It will reveal to him the instantaneous
miraculousness. (MSS)
Sincere Aspiration for
Transformation
For transformation what is
needed is aspiration, and the end of ego. To those who are sincere in
this regard will receive the divine help. (Paraphrase of The
Mother)
Whatever Man Seeks,
He Seeks God
Man is an eternal seeker. He seeks for the Godhead. He is the runner who
attains not his goal.
A soldier's life is fulfilled at the battlefront when his
courage rises sky high, but when he rules as a result of conquest, a
rare fulfilment that is denied to him in pitched battle comes to him.
Whatever man seeks, he really seeks God.
Whether it is in duty, heroism, sacrifice, devotion, or integrity, what
he really seeks is God [spirit] in them. Duty responds to honour,
heroism to courage, sacrifice to his expansive being, devotion to heart,
integrity to the Truth. (MSS, extracted)
Aspiration in All Forms
Aspiration keeps us alive.
The Divine created the
universe so that it could have something to aspire for –
Delight.
Romance is kept alive by the same principle
negatively.
Aspiration inspires.
Inspiration releases
all possible energy.
Energy employs us to direct and
organize it before results are arrived at.
Sri Aurobindo
says earth aspires through her tall trees.
Aspiration for
communication creates speech.
Spatial aspiration leads to
travel as well as transport.
Aspiration for intense
employment of energy creates athletic games.
Emotions
aspiring for light of self-awareness has created thought and
science.
Aspiration for moksha created tapas, Samadhi,
yoga.
Aspiration for food production in abundance created
growing population.
Aspiration for world government
created the United Nations Organisation.
Aspiration for
equality created the French Revolution.
Today the same
aspiration made a Black President.
Aspiration for upward
movement creates urban migration.
Aspiration for
employment created the movement of terrorism.
Aspiration
to possess national assets to themselves created caste.
A
similar aspiration for power created the divine right
theory.
Aspiration of the woman for the property of the
husband for her children made her chaste.
Aspiration of
one who can grow vertically leads to horizontal growth.

Ambition vs.
Aspiration that is Supported by the Force
Waiting
patiently for things far out of one's reach is aspiration. It takes time
for them to be fulfilled, but they will surely be accomplished. Aiming
at things one does not deserve on any showing is sterile ambition and
helps one to lose what he already has.
A friend suggested to an executive in an advertising company to acquire
a two wheeler, giving up his cycle. The executive replied,
"Many friends tell me the same thing, but I do
not want a two wheeler, I am waiting for a four wheeler."
In about two years, he lost his job.
Human refractoriness remains as perverse as it is capable of. In an
atmosphere of freedom, the Force sails into action. The same atmosphere
releases the naked ambitions of human nature in a greater measure. (MSS,

To Understand,
Live the Divine Will
Our constant prayer is to
understand the Divine's will and to live accordingly. (The Mother)

Availability of Spirituality for this Who Have the Call, the Aspiration
for It
-Religious worship is for all. Spirituality is for those who have the
call.
-There was a time
when spirituality was meant for one who could go to the forest, sleep on
a bed of nails, etc.
Now since 1956 when
the Force descended,
the right to enjoy a higher
spirituality is waiting at the door of everyone, provided he has
aspiration. By aspiration it means the aspiration of the
Soul. (MSS)
Inner Leadership that Enables Spiritual Life
In one
sense it seems relatively easy to live the spiritual life because the
path has been laid out; e.g. moving to the depths, opening to the Force,
etc. The reality however is that most everything in the being opposes
it. That is why there needs to be a welling up of
aspiration, a dedication to the Spiritual Quest, and the tending of
conscious inner leadership, which organizes the
quest, facilitating the necessary
transitions.
Connecting
to Spirit as Householder, Aspirant, or In Between
It is true
that we are slowly evolving from mental to spiritual beings. In
fact, as mental beings, we can now consciously make the
decision and effort to connect with spirit in any area of our
lives. By connecting with Spirit, we experience a continuous
silence and Presence within; we tend to move from selfishness to
selflessness and self-givingness; and we tend to have the
wherewithal to see the true truths unfolding around us to make
the right decisions and take to the right actions that lead to
powerful positive results. We also experience an ongoing joy and
delight of being.
Can all of
us simply take to this spiritual-oriented way of life without
any distinctions in our approach? It would seem that it would be
best to have a variety of approaches to accommodate differences
in people. Therefore, let's consider two approaches toward the
spirit; one from the perspective of the 'householder'; and the
other from the perspective of the 'spiritual aspirant'. The
former tries to bring spirit into life in order to create
success, harmony, and well-being in family life; the latter
directs his life to his own physical, emotional, mental, and
spiritual growth and evolution. One can also live a life of
spirit at levels in between.
The
householder takes to the spirit by opening to the spiritual
Force in order to create a happy and prosperous family
existence. As a result, life continually comes under one's
control. That individual opens to the Force before major
activities, such as an important business meeting; or in order
to resolve a problem, such as issues of money, health of a
family member, a child's education, an upcoming social event,
and the long-term security and harmony of the family. By opening
to the spiritual Force, vast material results come in an
extraordinary short period of time. We experience a constant
stream of miraculous-like events in which new opportunities
suddenly arise, serious problems are suddenly overcome,
difficult challenges are easily met -- as the Force brings life
around us under control. I call this phenomenon "life response."
The
spiritual Aspirant on the other hand seeks the change and
transformation of his very nature. This individual seeks to
discover move from the surface of life to the depths within, to
come out of the essential Ignorance of man, and to infuse all
parts of his being -- physical, vital, and mental -- with the
spirit. He seeks to come in contact with his Soul within and
with the Force around him, eventually surrendering all of his
works his very life to the Divine Will. Through this effort, his
nature changes, the world around him is changed, and he becomes
an instrument for the spiritualization of society, culminating
in a Divine life on earth. He is living an adventurous life of
consciousness and joy. He (or she of course) becomes a pioneer
in the spiritual evolution of humanity.
If we are serious about connecting with spirit in life, we can do so as
a Householder or the Spiritual Aspirant, or any point in between. Each
person who feels an inner call is ready to move one or several steps
beyond his current condition. He can determine what his life status is
-- as husband/wife, father/mother, worker, etc -- and determine his
approach to the spirit. Whatever level we choose, life will consist of a
never-ending succession of miraculous-like experiences in which we feel
an ever-increasingly intense joy and delight of being.
On Seeking
-
Seeking is NOT
to confirm what we already know.
-
Seeking is
outside, for something we do not have.
-
Seeking is NOT
in the past, unless it is for the essence.
(MSS)
On Spirituality
Spirituality is in its essence an awakening to the inner reality of our
being, to a spirit, self, soul ... an inner aspiration to enter into
contact with the greater Reality ... a turning, converting, a
transformation of our whole being ... into a new self, a new nature.
(Sri Aurobindo)
