Process of Attaining Higher Life
For those committed to the Higher Life the process of its attainment is aspiration (for the Greater), rejection (of the lower), and surrender (to the Divine Will).

Aspiration - Rejection - Surrender
When the soul moves, it is aspiration. When the inner being, the inner consciousness is active, the movement is called aspiration. When that aspiration is released, yoga begins. Once the aspiration is released and is coupled with rejection of the human parts and the movement of surrender -- which means the mental will withdrawing itself from the field and allowing the Spirit to move -- the Divine consummation is given to the individual. These are the three steps: Aspiration - Rejection - Surrender. (MSS)

Surrender
B
y which the being, consciousness, delight and power of the human being is given up unto that of the Divine Being is surrender. (Paraphrase of MSS)

Surrender
On
ce you have turned to the Divine, saying, 'I want to be yours,' and the Divine has said, 'Yes,' the whole world cannot keep you from it. When the central being has made its surrender., the chief difficulty has disappeared. The outer being is like a crust. In ordinary people the crust is so hard and thick that they are not conscious of the Divine within them. If once, even for a moment only, the inner being has said, 'I am here and I am yours,' then it is as though a bridge has been built and little by little the crust becomes thinner and thinner until the two parts are wholly joined and the inner and the outer become one. (The Mother)

Surrender to the Divine and Peace
Give yourself, all what you are and what you do, to the Divine, and you will have peace. (The Mother)

Soul, God's Giving
To the soul that wholly gives itself to him, God also gives himself altogether. (Sri Aurobindo)

Surrendering to the Conscious Force Power

Those dedicated to the path of the spirit can surrender to the Truth Consciousness, to the descending spiritual Power to enable the consciousness and the force to emerge in the thing we are focused on. It is a Causal power garnered that creates something out of nothing; that enables the infinite to emerge from that current finite.

Wanting vs. Surrendering to the Divine

Wanting and asking for something from the Divine is one level of spiritual faith. A higher level is to surrender to that Force and Power, and aspire that Its Will be done in our lives.

The Formidable Will that Surrenders Itself to Divine Will

That will which can surrender one’s will, Mother says, in the Agenda, is a formidable WILL. (Karmayogi)

Surrender in Works
Instead of us doing the work and relying on our own talents, if we allow the Divine to bring out our talents in that work, the end result is seen in the beginning itself. This is surrender. [MSS, slightly modified.]

Aspiring to Achieve the Divine Aim and Instantaneous Miraculousness
Instead of trying to achieve his own goals, can he try to achieve the divine aim?
If he agrees will his resourcefulness be exercised for that?
In that case, he will witness the infinite emerging from the finite.
Instead of relying on his own capacities will he rely on the Divine capacity?
It will reveal to him the instantaneous miraculousness. (MSS)

Surrender in Sri Aurobindo's Yoga
-
The surrender Sri Aurobindo describes moves the man from egoistic centralisation of rationality to universalised individuality. This change takes place on the surface, the mind, the ego, Time and in the finite structure of events and objects.

-Human energy cannot sustain yoga. Only the universal energy can. For that to enter our system, all human energy must be fully exhausted. No drop of energy should go to preserve the existing activities. Thus, HE arrives at the method of SURRENDER. (MSS)

Yoga And Surrender
Yoga means union of the human with the Divine behind the human, or the Divine within the human. To achieve this union, surrender is the means. (MSS)

Become God by Surrendering to God
Not even in his wildest imagination has Man dreamt of being God. All that man wants is to get a boon from God.

Still, the Mother says it is a worthy goal for Man on earth.

What does the Mother mean when She says that Man can become God? She does mean it. She has told the world how to accomplish it. To surrender one's being, consciousness, power and delight to this Force qualifies one to aspire for becoming God, according to the Divine Mother. (MSS, slight modification)

The Nature of Surrender
-By consciously surrendering our mind to the twelve aspects of sprit is the attitude, movement, method which Sri Aurobindo calls "surrender."

-The method of finite going back into the infinity that appears finite, in the dimensions of the simultaneous time, is Surrender.

-Moving from Time in Becoming to Simultaneous Time in the Being of the Becoming is Surrender.

-If we decide to seek it, the Divine Mother offers to act on our behalf. Hence HE wants us surrender to HER.

-The instantaneous miraculous is a point where She accepts our Surrender.

Surrender Beyond Consecration
At a later stage [beyond consecration], you will feel not only this sense of wonder, but begin to develop a certain desire to surrender to this Power. You will begin to see that you are making the effort at consecration not so much for your own personal achievement and success, but to fulfill the Divine purpose and intent. You will begin to feel that you are becoming an instrument through which the Divine Intention and Will can flow. At that point, you may begin to surrender you very life's purpose and existence to the Divine. Then your own individual soul purpose and the Divine purpose will begin to merge. Such spiritual experience and realization in the activities of life is perhaps the greatest joy known to Man.

On Surrendering to the Next Highest Level and Spiritual Surrender
Surrender is a natural psychological process in the evolution of man at all levels. When man progresses, he is seeking for something. Normally he seeks for what he doesn't have, for the next step from where he is. Very often he either has to overcome the stage where he is in order to move to the next one, or he has to shed what he is in order to achieve the next stage. An ignorant man who wants knowledge must first part with his ignorance so that knowledge can come to him. Technically we may say that ignorance is surrendered so that knowledge may come in. Unless the present level gives up its practices, it cannot go to the next higher level. The present level has a certain efficiency, but if we want to move up one level, it is necessarily an improvement over what we are. In the context of learning, the present fabric of learning has to be undone and redone at the next higher level.

In all the areas of evolution at the psychological level, surrender is an implied process. It can be seen in education, in the acquisition of culture, and in organising oneself. Any mental skill or psychological endowment can be attained only by giving up what one has in preference to what is much better.

In the context of yoga, we can also apply the concept of surrender. Yoga means union of the human with the Divine behind the human, or the Divine within the human. To achieve this union, surrender is the means. All that humanity has developed so far for its own functioning at the level of being human must be surrendered, and the original spiritual nature laid bare so that the soul can emerge. (MSS)

On Surrendering to the Supramental Force
The descent of the Truth Consciousness, the Supramental Force is what is New in the world. It is a newly discovered form of the Supreme acting in life. Sri Aurobindo revealed this power to the world.

All of the teachers and gurus of today are not really aware of it. And yet the descending Force is the single key to next stage of human evolution. It is the power and bridge to the future.

That supramental  Power is also acting on its own doings its work independent of Man. It is both the Force that created the universe and the Power that we can open to create infinite possibilities in our own life. In other words, the Supreme has the supramental Force for creating a universe of forms. We have it to create anything we wish.

Through consecration -- i.e. self-offering of personal acts, situations, etc. to the Force -- we gain the cooperation of life for our personal needs. When we Surrender to that power, however, we gain the cooperation of life for the needs of the Supreme. Surrender is for advanced spiritual aspirants whose very purpose in living is to serve the evolutionary intent of the Divine. It is a self-offering of one's very existence to the Supreme through an opening to the supramental force and Power for the evolution and transformation of one's self and humanity.

Surrender as Method to Transform Itself into the Divine Will
The
human will that has created the material form should be transformed into divine will so that the material force behind will change into supramental force. Is there a method or a process for the human will to transform itself into the divine will? [It is surrender.] (MSS)

Identifying with the Divine through Surrender
If man surrenders totally to the Divine, he identifies himself with the Divine. (The Mother)

Self-Giving to Divine and Surrender
Self-giving to the Divine is the perfect condition for Surrender. Not even asking for anything; but supporting whatever the Divine Intends.

True Love for the Divine
The true love for the Divine is self-giving, free of demand, full of submission and surrender. It makes no claim, imposes no condition, strikes no bargain, indulges in no violences of jealousy or pride or anger -- for these things are not in its composition. (The Mother)

On Surrender
-Behind this act of surrender is the conviction not of sacrifice but of expansion into the nature of the Divine. It is surrender for gain, not for loss. One becomes That to which he surrenders.
-Will is Force, Force issues out of consciousness.  Surrender of the will results in the will disappearing into consciousness which is the origin of the Divine. Thus, surrender enables man to become Divine.
(
Paraphrase of MSS)

Self-Surrender that Makes the Path Short & Easy
The path is long, but self-surrender makes it short; the way is difficult, but perfect trust makes it easy. (The Mother)

Emotional Protection through Surrender
Surrender to the Divine is the best emotional protection. (The Mother)

True Saintliness and Wisdom
True saintliness is to want and realise what the Divine wants for you, and true wisdom is to unite with Him so that you can clearly know what He wants of you and for you. (The Mother)

Surrender Does Not Need to Wait
It is never too early to make the complete surrender. Some things may need to wait, but not that. (Sri Aurobindo)

The Lesson for the Ripe Soul in the Bhagavad-Gita
In The Gita Krishna offers to the ripe soul [i.e. one who has developed considerably] a psychological method [of yoga, personal evolution]. It is a method of Jivatma [the individual soul] surrendering to Paramatma [the Divine]. It is accomplished by renouncing desire, ego and belief in Dharmas [philosophies]. (MSS, with embedded explanations)

Becoming an Instrument of the Force

From the spiritual perspective, our sole purpose in life is to collaborate and be an instrument of the spiritual Force that is trying to manifest a particular divine aspect in the world.

A Prayer to the Divine Mother

May at any and every moment in time I follow Her Intention and Will, which will mean a life of continuous miraculousness, progress, and joy.

Deeply Thinking of and thereby Experiencing the Divine Mother

When one intensely concentrates/meditates and thinks of the Divine Mother, She comes: as a rich presence; as a fragrant, floral smell; as deep peace and feeling of bliss.

Taking from, Not Giving to The Divine

We can take from Divinity just like we take from another person, thereby inviting others to take from us. In fact, we may try to take more from a Power that can give Infinitely.

Overcoming this is to give to, to surrender to the Divine, which will attract Her Grace and push away those who demand of us.

We can also say that such tendency to take from the Divine indicates our capacity to give and surrender to Her, just as hatred is inverted Love, and can reverse itself.

What is in our nature that takes from the Divine is also how we take from others, which in turn attracts others' demands. We can reverse all of it by looking deep within and discovering the deepest cause of our limitations and making the sincere effort to overcome it.

Motive of Service, Benefit to Others that Attract

Let's say we were to list out the motives behind a work we are doing. We might discover we are doing it to pass the time, to engage in something that utilizes our skill which energizes and fulfills us, to make a living, to have social interaction with others, and to vaguely sense we are benefitting the client or other workers in the organization. Now let's say we shifted completely to the latter motive, and see the work as a means of giving others benefit, forgetting all of the rest. (We can further consider the very specific ways it would help the beneficiary, while also aspiring for their total success in those areas of common association.) That would have the effect of not only bringing deep satisfaction to one’s own self, but generate life response results for all involved.

In this way, we can take inventory of our psychological motives, and reprioritize them.  It can e.g. become a New Year’s resolution or a sincere pledge to a New Beginning. The level of commitment to and sustaining this new orientation and effort will make all the difference.

There can be a further step, which is to elevate our inner commitment of service to others through our association with the divine Power. We can constantly offer our new motive of Service and Life Benefit for Others to the spiritual Force to establish the very best conditions and elicit powerful, positive outcomes for all parties.

That can in turn become a bridge to a further stage of Service to the Divine alone and in total. I.e. offer ourselves fully to the Divine Will and become an instrument of Her divine Intention.  From that poise, we can elicit universal response that affects the collective, bringing intense psychological and material benefit to an ever-widening circle of individuals.

Infinite Service

To shift from ambition, to achieve for egoistic selfish motives, to an Aspiration to accomplish for the sake of, for the love of, for the glory of, for the joy of the Divine, opens up the prospect for Infinite Service.

Infinite Service is fulfilled by aspiring for the progress and prosperity of everyone around us, and working for it silently, sincerely in our inner thoughts and quiet actions. Thus, pure, non-egoistic goodwill and self-giving are Infinite Service.

Infinite service means to attract or generate infinite material abundance for oneself and others.

Infinite service originates from an expansive psychological joy and contagious cheerfulness that touches everyone we meet and a silent flaming spiritual aspiration for the Divine and its spiritual Force  that uplifts and inspires all to whom we relate.

Calm, goodwill, self-giving, joy and perfection in work are true expressions of that Service. (paraphrase of Garry Jacobs, MSS)

Spiritual Receptivity

The Mother on Spiritual Receptivity

From Mother's Agenda March 3rd, 1971 - Volume 12

"I think I see ... the most exact thing to say is their condition, the state they're in. And then, of course, there are those who are closed, so to say, who, for me, don't see, who are totally in the outer consciousness; and there are those who are open -- there are some ... certain children are remarkable, it's as if they were wide open (gesture like a flower to the sun) and ready to absorb. It's especially people's receptivity that I see, the condition they're in: those who come with aspiration, those who come with curiosity, those who come out of ... a kind of obligation, and then those who are thirsty for light -- there aren't too many, but there are several children. Today I saw one, he was so sweet!... His father lives at the lake, he bought some property at the lake; he lives there with his wife and children, and it was the birthday of one of the children -- oh! (Mother opens her eyes wide) wonderful!

And I see only that. Not what they think or say (all that seems superficial and uninteresting): only the state of receptivity they are in. That's what I see above all."

Factors that Determine our Receptivity to Life Power and the Incoming Grace

Receptivity is the capacity of the Human Vessel to receive the incoming Grace from Life and from the Divine Itself. The degree to which Life responds with good fortune for us through those Powers will ultimately depend on our level of Receptivity.

Our receptivity increases-

  • When our aspiration is for something significant or even great; rather than what is surface and superficial.

  • When we are focused on a goal, which attracts the power to that particular intent.

  • When we are not scattered in our being, which avoids deflecting the incoming Power.

  • When our Mind is still and silent, instead of filled with thoughts.

  • When our heart and emotions are calm and serene, detached from the intensities of life.

  • When our consecrated efforts do not demand or expect anything; but are open to and accepts what the Spirit brings.

  • When we are not bound by our fixed habits.

  • When we are attitudes (towards self, others, work, life) are fully positive, instead of negative.

  • When we are not want to our prejudiced opinions and wrong beliefs.

  • When our Ego is the background, distanced from our thoughts, feelings, and actions.

  • When we are patient, positive and cheerful in our thoughts and feeling.

  • When our level of organization, inner strength, skill, capacity, effort, focus, etc. is the maximum it can be.

  • When we take actions that are sensible and not rash or foolish.

  • When we go the extra mile, and make the extra effort (e.g. in work).

  • When we are constantly self-giving, rather than taking.

  • When we express our own individuality, uninfluenced by the herd.

  • When we surrender our life to the Higher Life; to the Divine.

  • When our Surrender to the Divine moves from our thoughts to our emotions, culminating in the very fiber of our being.

  • When our aspiration for the Divine is intense.

  • When we have completer Faith in the Spirit, not in ourselves or life.

  • When we are sincere in all parts of our being.

  • When we take to higher values likes tolerance, openness, honesty.

  • When the center of our being is deep within, rather than the surface.

  • When we touch the psychic, the evolving soul.

  • When we are able to constantly consecrate, which has the added benefit of penetrating us and forging an inner life.

  • When the Mind sheds its vital and physical influences, including its perceptions tarnished by our desires, passions, and needs.

  • When the Mind moves to silence, and then to intuition, universality, and supramental perception.

  • When we perceive that the Inner, not the Outer is the ultimate determinant of our being.

  • When our life movements are in touch with the evolutionary movements of the society around us.

  • When the atmosphere of the surrounding collectives is positive, not blocking the descending power and grace.

  • When one's own wishes are in alignment with the Will of the Divine.

  • When we become receptacles of the Real Ideas of the Infinite Consciousness.

  • When we are receptive to spiritual values like oneness, truth, wisdom, goodness, power, creativity, delight, joy, love, timelessness, and infinity.

  • When we are pure of heart.

  • When we are open to any and all possibilities.

  • When we are One with, not separate from the Field of life.

The Mother on Spiritual Receptivity

I am including here other statements by Mother from the Agenda on Spiritual Receptivity.

October 6, 1958
…. my feeling is that the collective receptivity will increase as the action becomes increasingly supramentalized. And the need for an individual receptivity – with all its distortions and alterations and limitations – will decrease in importance as the supramental influence increasingly imposes its power. This influence will impose itself in such a way that it will no longer be subject to the defects in receptivity.

June 15, 1963
It's clear that wherever there is a receptivity, the Force acts, there's no doubt.

November 13, 1965
… the receptivity must be in proportion to the goodwill or to the aspiration (but the two are very similar), to this something that wants something else. People who are very content, very satisfied and ... (this is an interesting illustration) and who have realized a harmony in life (some people have realized a harmony in this life: everything appears so harmonious, so comfortable, they succeed in everything they do, everything that happens to them is ...), I think those still have a long way to go before they can receive.

January 18, 1967
… a constant aspiration – the constancy of aspiration and receptivity to let the forces and the light come through.

January 21, 1967
"How will we be when we are divine? What will be the difference? What's the divine way of being?" … And then, it's again the same thing: a sort of receptivity, of silent opening to let oneself be permeated, and a very subtle perception of a way of being that might be luminous, harmonious.

February 18, 1967
The ideal is to have this suppleness and receptivity and surrender, that is, so total an acceptance of the Influence that whatever comes, naturally, spontaneously and effortlessly the instrument adapts itself instantly to express it. With everything, of course: with the plastic arts, with music, with writing.

September 13, 1967
True humility is humility towards the Divine, that is, the precise, exact, LIVING sense that you are nothing, can do nothing, understand nothing without the Divine, that even if you are an exceptionally intelligent and capable being, that is NOTHING in comparison with the divine Consciousness – and one must keep that constantly, because then one constantly has the true attitude of receptivity. A humble receptivity that sets no personal pretension against the Divine.

December 16, 1967
In the state of receptivity (vertical gesture to the Heights), of receptive passivity (the opposite of action, that is), the body must be turned exclusively to the Supreme (same vertical gesture)…

October 23, 1971
It’s my constant occupation: eliminating all preferences. But the positive means is (we always come back to the same thing): “What You want, what You want.... What You want, what You want....” And when you’re completely still and free from any trepidation (what I call “passive receptivity,” that is, there isn’t any activity, and yet: what You want, what You want ...), then – then only – That works. And you really have the feeling (I don’t know how to say it), really that you’re used only as a channel so the Thing – the Force or the Action – can go exactly where it is supposed to go. That’s what our consciousness is used for (gesture of a pipe).

Consecration, Concentration, Psychic Being, & Surrender

Surrender
The next stage [beyond concentration within, consecration to the Force, and discovering the evolving soul deeper within] is to surrender our very being and essence to the Divine Will and Purpose. This will radically change the orientation of our lives; a change from a me-centric existence to a Divine-centric existence. Our very purpose in life, all of our actions in life would be surrendered to the spiritual reality and its purpose.

Surrender Beyond Consecration
What consecration begins, surrender completes and consummates. (MSS)

Discovering the Psychic Being and Surrender
Once one has discovered the personal evolving soul
[the Psychic Being], the method of Surrender to the divine will emerges as a possibility.

Consecration, the Psychic  Being, and Surrender
The more we consecrate acts to the Force, the more we can penetrate into the depths enabling us to connect with the psychic being. When we connect there, we are ready to surrender to the Divine.

Concentration Enabling Consecration and Surrender
Though one can consecrate an event before one has learned to concentrate, a decided attempt at an ongoing all-inclusive concentration will enable the greatest capacities of consecration to blossom, and open up the further possibility of one's Surrender to Spirit in life.

The Journey Within

  • We are at the point of running thoughts in the mind, or we are those thoughts.
  • To stop the running thoughts is to detach oneself from the tendency to move along the identification with mind, life and matter.  The running thoughts are gross, having had their origin in the body.
  • Human CHOICE is exercised at every moment. When the choice is clear, the will moves away from running and the mind becomes SILENT.
  • No progress will be there the moment we discard our cherished method of consecration that is surrender.
  • Consecration of the thought is followed by that of vital movements and physical urges.
  • Moving along those lines, we reach our first landmark of the Mental Psychic.
  • As the inward movement to the inner mind and subliminal mind continues, the spiritual mind ranges open, and the psychic [i.e. the personal evolving soul], which is on its downward journey to the body, rises in its upward journey to Supermind. (MSS, extracts)

Surrender, Acts, and Planes of Being

Giving of One's Self to the Divine at Various Levels
The Mother [Mira Richard] was in Japan during the First World War. She recorded her Prayers and Meditations everyday, which was later published. As a preface to that publication, She wrote that there are those who give their souls to God, and others who give their work. Some give their wealth. A few others give their lives to the Divine. There are the rare few who give their souls, wealth, work and lives to the Divine... (MSS, slightly altered)

On Surrender
Surrender seems less to do with acts, events, problems, but a general or overall movement of giving ones self to the Divine's Will, not personal will. The personal self begins to be left behind; though it enables the real Self.

No surrender is possible without the psychic emerging. Surrender is done through the psychic. (We consecrate so that we reach the psychic.)

Mental, Vital, and Physical Surrender
Sri Aurobindo advocates surrender. One surrenders one's speech which is vital. Surrendering one's thought is mental. Surrendering one's acts is physical, as it is the body that works. Surrender means one gives up his own initiative and waits upon the Divine to initiate. That act of surrender starts with the thought in the Mind, feelings in the vital and ends with the sensation of the body. Surrender of one's acts brings the Force through it to his body.  Surrender brings the Force to the body and the body thrills at its touch. (MSS, extracted)

The Act as Occasion to Surrender in Sri Aurobindo's Yoga
Sri Aurobindo chose a method that is not of any one part. He chose the ACT as the occasion and the method as surrender. He called it self-surrender and self-consecration. That way it is voluntary self-giving of one's self to the Divine. He says perfect self-giving is perfect self-surrender. (MSS)

Surrendering All Habits
What does the human will actually surrender? In order to be a good and conscientious citizen, we must give up bad habits in favour of good habits. But for one who wants to unite with his soul, all habits have to be given up. (MSS)

Surrender & Initiative
Surrender means one gives up his own initiative and waits upon the Divine to initiate.

Surrender and Infinite Accomplishment
(Simultaneous Time, Instantaneous Miraculousness)

Untitled
Surrender is the method where method becomes matter
. (MSS)

Infinite Results through Surrender
If we realize the Absolute we can create anything infinitely. This is a practical concept of infinity. Surrender to the Absolute enables this practical concept of infinity; i.e. from that relation we can create anything. (Paraphrase of MSS)

Response from Surrender
Surrender of one's self to the Divine enables the spirit Being to enter the life Becoming, which enables the infinite potentials of life to rush into the present as miraculous sudden, abundant, responses from life.

What Practice of Surrender Can Bring
Practise of Surrender can bring prosperity at the social level, and luck at the psychological level. At the spiritual level, the same energy helps the spirit to evolve. (MSS)

How Surrender Accomplishes a Work Instantaneously through Pure Mind and Soul  Key Item
-Creation is along the line Absolute - Sat - Supermind - Mind - Life - Matter.
-As we are in the plane of Mind, accomplishment effectuates itself accomplishing through causality.
-Surrender enables us to withdraw from thought and then Mind.
-It is capable of withdrawing further until the I becomes the Soul and the evolving soul, the Psychic Being.
-Moving thus, one moves from Time to Supramental Time -- the simultaneous integrality of Time Eternity and Timeless Eternity. I call it the third dimension of Time.
-When Mind becomes Pure, it accomplishes its work which needs to reach the act of the body, instantaneously. (MSS)

Unconditional Surrender
God acts unconditionally in the lives of those who have surrendered unconditionally. (MSS)

Surrender, Contradiction, Complement
Surrender makes what appeared contradictory complimentary.
[MSS, slightly modified.]

How to Become God
Not even in his wildest imagination has Man dreamt of being God. All that man wants is to get a boon from God.

Still, the Mother says it is a worthy goal for Man on earth.

What does the Mother mean when She says that Man can become God? She does mean it. She has told the world how to accomplish it. To surrender one's being, consciousness, power and delight to this Force qualifies one to aspire for becoming God, according to the Divine Mother. (MSS, slight modification)

Passing on the Force to Others
Such people who are the beneficiaries of this Force have another opportunity. They can become a source of this Force to all others who come into contact with them.

If they desire it, as they have remained passive when luck carried them along, they must remain PASSIVE in their inner existence all the time, so that the FORCE may constantly enter their life and being and distribute itself to all those who come into contact with them. In yogic parlance, it is called surrender. (MSS)

The Wisdom of the Bhagavad-Gita
The Gita declares we should not be attached to the fruits of our work. It talks about desire. Desire is to be given up. Further, the Gita pleads for the shedding of the ego. Finally, the Gita exhorts us to surrender all our dharmas and come to Him [the divine]. These are all the several stages of perfection according to the Gita. The Lord takes upon Himself the duty of leading soul to liberation when he treads this path. This is a profound spiritual truth which will lead one to realization of the Divine. This is a path meant for the ripe individual soul. Spirituality is not meant for the unripe soul or for those who are not serious. (MSS, modified)

Surrender, the Gita, and Transformation
The Gita's surrender is the most powerful yogic instrument, but it aims at moksha [liberation, apart from life], not transformation.

Surrender

Like the Sunflower, We Can Continually Turn Toward the Light

The Sunflower constantly turns toward the light. As we go about our activities, things change, shift, and we too need to reconnect and turn our attention back toward the light; no matter the angle we are at; i.e. no matter what we are doing. It is a great challenge, but the Sunflower does it in its own way and thus can serve as a model for maintaining our connection to the Divine; to the spiritual Force, the Divine Mother.

Surrendering to vs. Asking of the Mother

It should not be what I want from the Divine Mother, but what She requires of me.

Comment: It is better to think about Her than to ask of Her, though the latter is certainly permissible. The former is to begin to Surrender our very lives, our life's purpose to Her Will. The latter still has a bit of the ego embedded in the request.

Levels of Fulfilling Our Purpose in Life

One level of personal fulfillment is to follow the path of one's lower, Ego self. Seeking money, power, and success for their own sake is its hallmark. Higher still is to embrace the conditions that Nature has put before you. It is to happily accept the givens of Life and thereby grow in the process. Highest of all is to Surrender to the Divine, the Divine Mother, and embrace what She asks of you to do through everyday conditions. It is a life of wonder, and utter joy and bliss.

This is in essence the same as Sri Aurobindo's insight in The Life Divine that we attain our True Individuality and Purpose by discovering our role in the Universal scheme of things in its attempt to fulfill the Transcendent Will.

On the Abandon that Enables Surrender to the Divine

Yes, that abandon that is the basis of Surrender requires a very different orientation towards life. Sometimes a catharsis compels one in that direction; other times powerful inner experiences of the soul.

Karmayogi indicates that such Surrender comes by connecting deep within; i.e. after making contact with the Psychic Being. (That is enabled through constant consecration.)

In the last several years I have had a number of such True Self experiences. They are completely shattering, and I must keep it under control. (I cannot say more.)

Still it is not enough to make me take to Surrender in full. Sometimes I practice what one might call Surrender Lite. It's a progressive movement upward on the road (hopefully) to full, integral Surrender. I have just embarked on this road It is a freeway to timelessness and infinity in this life.

Levels of Relating to the Divine Mother to Attract the Infinite from the Finite

Lower Level: "Mother, such and such is my problem. Please help."

Higher Level: "Mother, make me what you want. I will follow."

As a result, Knowledge is given of what to do, as it percolates from the subconscious to our conscious awareness. We can now act accordingly. Infinity enters the finite.

The more we think of the Mother for its own sake, the more the Grace. Our intensity is the spigot. Our receptivity determines the dimensions of the container.

Understanding Where We Are Headed through Spiritual Mind

I believe there is a difference between a cluttered mind that constantly asks question like "why this, why that, etc.," and a higher, spiritualized mentality that is open and receives the knowledge of the Truth of our purpose, and the means of getting there.

From a poise of trust in the Divine Mother and living in the depths in calm silence, answers DO come, and we DO perceive what the Divine Will is for us. Sometimes it takes time, but through this double poise, answers do tend to arise suddenly out of nowhere as intuitions of highly useful truth knowledge of things to come, as very real possibilities. Simultaneously, we have total trust in what we do not know of the future.

The more intense our trust in Mother and the deeper we are centered in the depths, culminating in the Psychic, the more the intuition takes on a supramental quality, meaning we perceive the multi-sided truths of what is happening to us, where we are going, and the point of it all. In this way, we don't have to wait so long to understand the what, where, and why.

I have experienced the intuitional part of receiving without thought a ray of knowledge of a matter, including an aspect of my future direction. Most of those close to Karmayogi have experienced this as well. However, the universal (overmental) and supramental intuition that is many sided view of the truth of what needs to be known for the future is a further stage. It brings all of life's truth that are critical to our future progress into our field of awareness. As a result, we have a very distinct perception of our purpose, where we are headed, and the best approach to get there.

From that dual poise, past, present, and future is perceived in the Eternal Now. We garner the knowledge of the future in the present. We thereby garner a deep sense of what that future is or can be. We also see the past and its influence on the present unfolding, and its movement toward the future. This knowledge garnered through this undivided arc of time guides us at every point. It is supramental perception of utilitarian truths that exist and available to us in the timelessness of time.

I suspect Karmayogi increasingly lives like this way -- constantly garnering the relevant many-sided truth knowledge, giving him a profound understanding of things that leads to decisions that end in magnificent outcomes.

I offer this as a theory that I hope to further explore in the future in my own life.

Destiny, Synchronous With Divine Will

Acting On Right, Destiny Goal Attracts Its Accomplishment

When you act on a wholesome, targeted goal that is in touch with your "Destiny Self," its successful outcome tends to move toward you on its own.

I.e., when you evolve and become conscious, you become synchronous with the Divine Will. When you then Aspire for something wholesome of your own (the goal) and then act to accomplish it, Grace follows you and brings you that result.
